Error When Flashing Hitachi 46dh But Still Pass
« on: July 18, 2006, 02:26:00 PM »

I have flashed my Hitachi 47DH twice so far both times coming out with a PASS, but each time it fails when flashing Sector 2/8 "failing to execute flasher" sense : 5/26/00. Anyone have any input on this. Drive still works and boots originals and movies, but no backups. I want make sure this is just a media problem and not a flash problem. Thanks

Has anyone actually had all 8/8 flash with no fails? I keep restoring and reflashing and it always passes but never seems to get 8/8 without one fail.

I ran the flash a few times in Safe Mod and finally got all 8/8 sectors to flash correctly. Originals and DVDs still boot and backups do not. So it is simply my lovely Hitachi drive that is the problem. No worry though Pioneer 111d is on order. I read in another forum from GaryOPA that flasher can fail some of the sectors and be fine as long as it still passes verfification at the end.

Here is GaryOPA's post from the XboxHacker.net Forums.......

GaryOPA writes....
"If you get an ERROR during the FLASH, but the program says 100% PASS. Then it means the firmware is correct, it is
just that flash step failed, but it either already flashed it and then failed, that section was already patched and the re-
flashing failed. No big deal, as long as the check passes and says it is 100% then it is. The system will REDO if it detects
any bytes wrong, which means a section truely failed."

I really didnt see a difference between when all 8 flashed ok and when I had an error on one of them, from what it seems like aslong as you get the PASS, everything is gravy. I would like for GaryOPA to come by and cosign this just to be sure though.

I had 2 failures during flash but the verification said all fine. I'm booting backups made with pioneer 111d and memorax media fine. The only thing doesn't work is the open tray trick. When it says open tray and it actually opens the tray after hit a button. Anyway, I think pioneer is the best here and you can get it about $40. A very good investment.

TO THE MANY POSTERS IN THIS THREAD:

Yes, it the program says PASS 100%, then it is passed all tests, and the byte compare matchs
the flashed firmware and everthing is ok.

In my last release (XTRM-HITACHI-7IN1-V1_2fix.RAR), the system will make a backup directory
with five files:

key.bin -< Your drive key (never DELETE this file!) (back it up again)
was.bin -< Your firmware before flash (includes your drive key)
orig.bin -< Your original firmware (without your drive key)
xtrm.bin -< The Xtreme firmware (without your drive key)
now.bin -< Your firmware after flashing (includes your drive key)

With this you can compare your self, it you don't trust the batch program

OPEN TRAY TRICK:

If you have problems booting media.

(I find on a unit with HDD, burned media on Pioneer always will boot on COLD START with game inside)

On units without HDD (CORE), I find I have the most trouble in getting games to boot

To use the new feature of Xtreme v1.2 to get it to re-check the game, there is two ways:

Startup unit with game inside, after you hear a "click click" sound, and before the dashboard loads,
quickly "double-tap" the EJECT button, and after a few more seconds you will see/hear the game load.

Second way, insert game at dashboard, wait until you see the OPEN TRAY, then again quickly double-tap
the EJECT button, and after a few more clicks and longer time (5-7 seconds) you will see the game boot.

DIRTY DISC ERROR:

Most likely your burner is not right, the DVD+DL (MUST BE PLUS) is not see to DVD-ROM or the SS
(Security Sector) is not at the correct spot or is the wrong one for the game or it is NOT THERE!

Hope this helps.......
