Flashing Hitachi 47d
« on: July 18, 2006, 08:57:00 AM »

I just flashed my Hitachi 47d, or I tried.

First I started the Birdy Flasher, but that one said: "Firmaware not supported"

Then I used GaryOpas flash.bat and that worked... sort of:

C:\flash\X-LG>flash e 1572

oh fuck. this happened to mine too. but it got to the end and i thought that was it, then i tried backups of my games nd they didnt work. is this the problem?

Exactly the problem.  I hope you didn't reboot or disconnect.  You will never get it working again.

Only way to fix a bad hitachi flash is to desolder the eeprom and connect to an external programmer.  Read this thread for help.

I did reboot.... as impatient as I am... Originals just run ok.

Backups don't run (dirty disk error), with Verbatim DL 2.4x.
Tried 5 times, but ... none working (and yes, I remembered the bitsetting/book type).

I didn't try to reflash, is this not possible anymore?

Should I reflash? Why isn't the media working? Cause of the wrong flash?

Thanks for your help!

Please let me know, I am very curious. I will try this evening myself.

A part from that: why did Birdy Flasher say: "Firmware not supported"?
Is it because it is 47d?
Is this solved by flashing it with the 59 FW?

Your Benq wont work with the Hitachi. You need a Pioneer, Liteon or Sony Burner.

Are you sure the reported Benqs worked with a Hitachi? Most Benqs reported didnt work.
My Pioneer 109 Burns with Verbatim and RITEK.D01 boot from Dashboard (47dh). My Samsung SH-W162C didnt work. I use wxripper+ssmerger+Imgburn.

TeRm,

I used the right Birdy Flasher: without flashing he even recognised my Hitachi with xtreme 1.2???
Very strange indeed but the Birdy flasher could see that it was an Hitachi.

I will try to flash again and hope that my backupps made with an AOPEN burner (set to DVD-ROM) are working.
I also have a LG burner, but that one the booktype cannot be changed (really a problem? I think so...)

So bottom line is: Hitachi user are screwed? And Samsung users have it easier?
Or is a new FW hack better supporting media, is this possible?

I know, I have a NEC 4551 and it's not a Pioneer, but I cant get one locally. If someone can also verify the Lite-on and Sony drives are good, they are avalible where I am now, and I will purchase one of those.

I did get Oblivion to tell me it needed to be updated once from a backup so I know the flash took, but it just wont read the media. Originals still work fine so I dont want to go lower(or back up) on the laser mod.

It is your burner. I have never see a backup work on a Hitachi burned using the NEC burner.

You can try the Xtreme v1.2 retry trick, by quickly double-tap the eject after you hear the click click
sound, or at the OPEN TRAY prompt on the dashboard after it failing to boot the game.

Since the Oblivion said you needed to update, then your flash is working and the backups you have
are working, just your Hitachi does not like your burner.

If you can't get a Pioneer, then get the Sony and make sure your set the booktype to DVD-ROM.
(Not needed on the Pioneer models).

I just ordered a pioneer and 10 verbatiums for 57$ free shiping from newegg.com

Pioneer DVR-111D
37.00$ Shiped
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16827129001

Verbatim 2.4X - 8X DVD+R DL 10 Pack
13.00$ Shiped after mail in rebate
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817131163

Garyopa you  should update the readme to till ppl to keep reflashing untill they get 8 out of 8 and how to do it. I tryed about 10 times and could never get 10 out of 10. It would tell me i had 100% flash and that i should restart even tho i failed two of the 8. Also when i booted in safemode the flashing went alot smoother. You should advise people to flash in safe mode.

Thanks for the great releases Garyopa

i think what xfoofoo said above is correct, once it says 100% its flashed ok, well thats what i read somewhere else,  hopefully garyopa can confirm or deny this.
