Xbox 360 Dvd Power Adapter From Diygadget.com
« on: July 14, 2006, 06:38:00 AM »

Hi all,

I tried searching through the forums but didn't find anything regarding this - if this question has already been answered please link me to it!

Just wondering if the dvd power adapter from DIYGadget.com (found on Ebay) is always set to modeb? There is no "debug" switch on it. Any input is appreciated!

Thank you!

I am surprised that nothing has been said regarding this adapter yet... did a google search through xbox-scene and nothing came back! Should be able to give you an update by this evening!

No, it is just an adapter, there is no switch to ModeB.

I added a resistor and momentary switch to mine which will put the drive in ModeB same as the "crossed wires" method.  Works fine.  I might be able to get a photo up sometime this weekend.

I have tried it, no problems at all. Switched to mode b through the button. I paied it about 20$ shipment included, here in Italy it's only 16€. Well worth the money you pay, fast shipment and worked great. Suggested.

I was just going to post something on this.  A few weeks ago I purchased one of these.  I paid $10 shipped directly from their website (diygadget.com).  The new ones do have a mode b button and also an eject button.  The adapter works great.  No worries about grounding and error logs.  Plus it is much more convenient.  IMO the Xecuter kit is a waste of money.  Even if you can find a different connectivity kit for a decent price, shipping will kill that deal.  I would order one of these again for sure.  They also have a combo deal if you want a hard drive adapter also.

And I would add... If you are able to buy it on ebay, it's even better  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I've been using the v2 for many flashes on different H-LG drives....  works good, and it was cheap.
It's usually just as inexpensive from diygadget.com as it is on ebay.

Just received the DVD and HD adaptor v2.  But im a little confused on how to hook up the DVD drive..the directions suck on there site...

Im assuming i plug in my PC molex connector to receive power..does polarity matter?
Also how do i get my Hitachi in mode B, is it just by clicking the button on the adapter?

The instructions on the site are a little sketchy.
Look for the directions for the "name brand" version  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) and compare those to the instructions on the DIY site. The two adapters work the same way & both have an eject button and mode B buttons (the name brand version has an on/off switch, which the DIY doesn't have).

As for the molex power, you should be fine with any from your PC. I used an external power brick that has a molex connector and a sata>usd adapter, so that I don't have to open my case or I can use my lappy to flash.

*BTW for anyone that is wondering, both the HD & DVD adapters work great!

Sorry to bring up this old thread.. they are now looking for tutorials.  If you have purchased adapters from them, you can win $50 or get 20% of what you have paid.  I emailed them for the new lite-on dvd, I was told they have the RS232 converter as well. but in the meantime they are also working on the new adapter with built in RS232 converter.

I am sure if I am allowed to post links, but if not, I will remove it.

I bought that adaptor a few months ago, and it works well. I have never used the "debug mode" though, as I was never quite sure when to press it, ie should it be in before the Hitachi drive is powered up, should it be left switched in debug for the whole process or just switched on for a second. As such, I have always just used slax method.
