I wonder if this one is quieter than the other two?  I have a T/S and sometimes i really wish the thing wouldn't run at 12x all the time...

Yes this is indeed most likely M$'s answer to xtreme firmware.

why do people always bring up the noise of the drive spinning?? what do you expect a disc to sound like when it's spinning at high speed??

if you got the stereo cranked when playing a game or you have headphones on, what difference does it make with the spinup of a drive???

if this is a new drive that MS has gone with to end the firmware hacks, the only way it can stop it is if they replaced the EEPROM with a version that can't be written to period..

and that still won't stop the persistent types like myself who chucked their Hitachi and got a Samsung..

because i like to get the best sound out of my 5.1 system as possible without background interference.  my pc for example was built from the ground up to be extremely quiet; i don't want to have to crank up the volume to cover background noise up.  It's probably not a big deal for most people, but some people do mind.

Just wanted to point out that this drive was manufactured in April 2005.  Seems like quite a while ago to be a *new* 360 dvd drive.

April 2005??? LMAO!!! That's NOT a new 360 drive... they must have pulled it out of a
developer kit if it is a 360 drive... but I'm seriously doubting it....

as I pointed out.. the drive has been featured on etech4sale for some months now...

I figured by now someone would have claimed to have gotten a 360 with a Philips drive in it...

until I see the backplane and it's actually connected to a 360 running a game.. (show some video)..
I'm not going to be totally convinced that it's indeed a 360 drive...

After a little research, it appears that ETech4Sale is the only site on the internet claiming that the Philips VAD6037/21 is an XBox 360 DVD Drive.

A thread at xboxhacker.net discusses it, but at least one poster there stated that it was an old XBox drive.  This, combined with the packaging covering up the back of the drive, as well as the old manufacturing date, leads me to believe that the information is incorrect.

Looks like someone just reported the etech4sale item to xbox-scene, and they ran with it.

Honest mistake,

Daniel Gary

Here's a close-up view of the eTech4Sale.com page...
Product may differ from image shown.

Why has nobody picked up on this?  The picture's obviously a Thomson TGM-600, nobody's saying it isn't.

What's nucelar anyway?  Never trust technology to a nation that can't even pronounce it properly!

it's not a 360 drive... look at the photo.. observe the Manufacture Date of April 2005... It's over a year
and a half old.. Wasn't it in April 2005 that the 360 was announced officially??

I don't believe first production runs of the 360s were started until June/July timeframe..

somebody fubared with the photo...
