I don't give a shit if it's got standoffs or a 360 core tray plate on it...

I want details on 360s coming with Philips drives, not a fucking photo that could or may have been
doctored...

Looks like a 360 drive to me... Doctoring a photo is possible, but that LOOKS legit to me. I guess well find out in the coming weeks if it is new, or something from a dev kit, etc....

Holy crap I was right this does seem to be a 360 drive.

I don't think its "new" though as others have said. The T/S drives that etech sells seem to be from dev/beta/prototype etc. kits and have black trays instead of a gray ones. My theory is that these are also from prototype 360s just took awhile for some1 to notice them.

I noticed that in the "A Look Inside Xbox 360" and "TheColony" videos that there's a clip of one guy "poking around" in a protoype 360 and the dvd-rom in it looks very similar.

I snaped this from "TheColony"

Interesting...

ok I will accept it being in a prototype 360... that's the ONLY place you will find these Philips DVD drives in...

I seriously doubt Philips will be included in any production runs of any 360s.... Not unless there's a shitload of them in the tens of thousands that need to be used up out of the inventory bins...

it would be interesting to know if these prototype 360s with the Philips DVD had any encryption technology built into them.. might be the reason why Hitachi and Samsung were exclusively chosen for the production runs due to their flashable ROMS to insert keys into them...

interesting.... i bet this is MS' attempt of stopping people from using the ODD hack. wouldn't suprise me if the firmware wasnt flashable

the tray looks very similar to the philips xbox1 drive

Interesting that the "new" drive is manufactured in April of 2005. Clearly this is from a pre-production 360 unless these drives were on backlog somewhere waiting to be purged if the contractors had any problems.

Plus black is not a part of the 360 color scheme, where white and gray meet. Cables are gray, PSU is gray, sides are gray, tray is gray, controller has gray bezels, sticks and dpad. Only the IR lense is "black" but is actually translucent red.

Hmmmm...  Looks like shit in my opinion. I'd never want a white console with a black tray. Glad i've got a hitachi.

All three Sammys I ordered from Etech.com all have black trays. They are dated May 05.  Only use them for SS.  I bet that drive was bought from the net somewhere and philips is not a new manufacture of 360 drives.

The black tray would make sense since most of the pre-release 360 dev. kits were black.

Also, sry if this is a little off topic and correct me if im wrong, but, didn't T/S drives not start appearing in retail 360s until early 2006?

What im getting at is that isn't it possible that these phillips drives could start appearing in reatil 360s since M$ already had them manufacture a few.

Probably not likely since they havn't appeared yet, but who knows.

Didn't you learn your lesson in the hilarious 3 pictures thread? How do you "drop" someone on the internet, by clicking the ban button with gusto? Get your ego in check and calm down.

Haha, fair conclusion but not true. I registered yesterday because it's been so long since I said anything here I forgot my username. I only look on here for info on my 360 and as of yet haven't found any topics that really needed input from me. Sometimes nothing is the smartest thing you can say.
And no I'm not saying this topic "really needed" my 2 cents, it just pisses me off when low level mods start threatening people rather than try to calm things down and keep them on topic.
