you can fix the scratching of discs by putting some felt pads inside and ontop of the metal case of
the DVD drive.
scratching is done when you move the DVD drive around and cause the DVD to become unbalanced.
there's not much support to keep the DVD from tilting just slightly and when it's spinning at such a highrate of speed a slight tilt will cause it to rub against the DVD tray and scratch the acryllic coating..
another possible fix would be to swap out the metal piece in the spindle cap that's located in the top cover with a magnet of opposite polarity so that when the DVD tray closes the two opposite pole magnets snap together really tight which would prevent the DVD from tilting....
used to be in older CD drives, there was a piece that snapped down over the spindle that prevented the disc from tilting around because the lens module didn't compensate for the tilt and wobble of the disc when spinning....
