GARYOPA - shouldn't you fulfill your promises on the Hitachi Firmware
before you start dabbling with another one?

Version 3.0 of hitachi firmware with media stealth was promised  "next weekend"
in the beginning of October - it's now February !!!

WHAT?  Are you his mother?  What kind of comment is that?

Now calm down and go to your room!  jester.gif

can someone post a picture of the new drive opened?

i have a new 360 with a production date of 11/16/06. my drive resembles a samsung and im guessing it is an ms28 drive.

that is unless the benq drives look exactly like the samsung drive with the tray opened.

http://www.xbox360fo...ead.php?t=29624

the picture of the drive there shows it with a chrome finish... which is different than the other pictures posted which show it with a dull white finish.

Friend took a dead 360 to eb for replacement and he was given a 360 with the new drive in it.  He didn't allow me to open it but the tray looks identical to the phillips drive and the mfg date is dec from what i caught on the box.  He was nice enough to give his old box to his son for me to mod.  It was a ms28.

So what are the opinions here on MS finally signing the firmware?

so is this drive worth trading in a box for? is it that much quieter and better? This drive must also be cheaper to produce than the hitachi - LG if they are switching hehe. What does MS signing the firmware mean?

WOW .. Thats alot of questions for 2 posts .... Here goes nothing ... " I " beleive the order would be Samsung - Hitachi - Philips - Then this one .... ( could be wrong ) Would I trade one in for this .... NEVER ... as Microsoft signing the firmware could only mean no " modding " As for one drive being louder than another " Who cares !! " Turn up your TV ... you'll never hear it !!! ... That is a shot at a couple of your questions .... Good luck with the others !!!  wink.gif

why would he hope for a samsung? what is the difference between the hitachi and the samsung? thanks! My experience is I had a samsung, then a hitachi, both are same loudness, the samsung ate my cd's and tore em up and also had problem reading scratched cd's. The hitachi has none of these problems =).

I went to Best Buy today and bought a premium xbox 360 that was manufactured on december 14, 2006 (2006-12-14). I though the ones made after november 2006 had the new drives. I returned it and gonna try my luck on friday or saturday at a couple more stores. Anyone else have this problem?

Somewhere it was reported that the new BenQ drives would be placed in all Xbox 360's manufactured during and after November 2006...this is false and incorrect...

I just purchased my Xbox 360 3 days ago and I checked the manufacturer date: 12/04/2006 and it has the Toshiba/Samsung drive...

I can hear it spin during Gears of War for example, but it usually gets overshadowed by the game noise...

Just adding my 2 cents...
