Is Pot Tweaking For Me?
« on: June 26, 2006, 03:56:00 PM »

My scenario:
My xbox 360 has a samsung drive.  I have hacked the firmware and have backed up my orignals.
From cold boot I can play my backups for however long I want.  They never crash in game or freeze. But when I take the backup out of the drive and then switch it for another backup I always get open tray error.  I have noticed even now I can play a backup for like 5-10mins  and try switching backups and still get the open tray error.   I can only correct the open tray error by leaving my xbox 360 off for 10-40mins and then I can play my backups.   At any time I can throw in my originals and the work flawlessly everytime.  I am using Verbatim media DVD+R DL.  I have tried a bunch of trick from the forums like the hard drive trick and others. I have been looking into pot tweaking my dive.

My question:
Given my symptoms should I pot tweak my drive?

Thanks for any info you can give

I'll answer my own question:  Yes it will fix backups only boot once in a while.  I tweaked my pot from 3.79 to 3.05 and backups and originals work great even if I switch backups after an extended period of time playing another backup.  Oh happy day  No sitting on my ass for 40 mins waiting to play a game.

Read a tutorial, and then take the risk of destroying your DVD drive if you feel so inclined.

Yeah it's pretty easy I have never tweaked pots on DVD drives before this.  Just get a multi meter and a 2mm Precsion Screwdriver.  I tweaked mine in one try going from 3.79 to 3.05  Here's a tip when turning the pot: a little bump goes a long way.  I turn mine a few milimeters and got 3.05.  Just find the tutorial that Moda made and u should be set

Good luck

You won't know until you try it.

Sorry I couldn't resist...  tongue.gif

On a more pertinent note, is there any disadvantage to pot tweaking the drive? I haven't had any problems reading discs, but I plan on doing the ol' dvd drive window mod one day and might as well tweak the pot while I'm at it if there aren't any downsides.

he said earlier it did for the most part.  and theres a tut here that helps.  it seems to solve much of the "open tray" errors.  you'll also find any questions or concerns answered in that link.
