Mtkflash Status = 51 Should Be 70
« on: June 19, 2006, 12:43:00 PM »

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)
I get the message "status = 51 should be 70" when I try to copy the original bin from a samsung drive.
I write the command "mtkflash r backup.bin" and then I choose the right drive (I've only got the Samsung drive connected). After that I see the name of the guy who created the program but then it all stalls and nothing happens, so I press Esc and get the message "status = 51, should be 70".
To the facts should also be that I have hexedit one version of mtkflash just to be sure and my computer detects the drive properly so what the f..k is going on???? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/uhh.gif)

Please help a desperate houseman.

Which chipset are you using?

Other tips:

Disable RAID in the bios.

Disable all IDE devices in the bios.

Don't boot the xbox until you get to the DOS prompt.

I'm sure this is a typo because that command is wrong. it should be "mtkflash r /m backup.bin"

try that if you haven't already assuming it was not a typo. If it was a typo and that command did not work, try "mtkflash r /sata backup.bin"

If no luck still, post the specs on your sata chipset

mtkflash r backup.bin works just fine.  I unhooked all my drives and everything and tried to flash my firmware with no luck.  I connected all my IDE drives again and then tried to flash and it worked.

I've got the same problem, the exact same reply after I hit esc 2 hours later.

Also from time to time I get this one here

"          please wait...........

           Port: b000, Master/Slave: a0

           Flash Type : "SST(SST39SF020)"

ERR: fail to open input file!                 "

Can anyone help, please.

What are you trying to do? read the fw or flash new fw? What is the command you are using. It's seeing your drive. It sounds like you're trying to flash but are spelling the bin file wrong or it's not on your disk.

I've already hexedited mtkflash and it made the drive register by mtkflash.
But i haven't turned off all Raid tools in BIOS though.
Instead of turning everything of shouldnt it be possible to run the raid drivers in the bootdisk?

No you need to turn RAID off.

Hi there!

I have exactly the same problem. The message about the flash type doesn't even come up. I select the right drive, then nothing happens. If I press ESC I get the 'status 51 should be 70' message.

I have tried several boards, mostly equipped with NForce4 chipset (of course I used the NF4 preedited version of MTKFlash). I tried several options on MTKFlash, I tried several booting options, like no other drives attached, booting the XBox360 after the DOS promt, booted from Floppy, USB stick or USB HD (not that I thought THAT would made a difference....).
The boards are ASUS A8N SLI premium (w/ additional SIL3114), ASUS A8N32-SLI deluxe (w/ additional SIL3132) and A7V8X with Promise 376 (where I couldn't find a MTKFlash version for, and I think I can't do the MTKFlash edit on my own). I may have access to a ASUS A8Vsomething (it's a socket939 and has chipset SATA, that's what I know about it).

Some ideas?

Me again.

Now I tried to use the SIL3114 on the A8N-SLI premium, which was recognized by the unmodded MTKFlasher. Unfortunately and strangely, the same thing happens here: Nothing happens after selcting the drive. The port is shown and then it stops. Only difference is that when I press ESC the message is 'Status = 01 should be 70'.
I have to start the PC frist and start the XBox at the DOS prompt becaue the SIL BIOS won't continue after trying to detect the drive (and if I disable the SIL in the ASUS BIOS MTKFLash won't find the drive at all...).

Another thing is I read that the name of the drive should be mentioned in MTKFlash, but on my computers only the SATA port name is mentioned. Or is this normal?

Is it possible MS locked the firmware of new drives from being read?

I'll just chime in, i'm a n00b but this might help you.

I had recently bought a premium that came with samsung ms25. I updated it to the latest recommended firmware: Xtreme42_Update

I flashed it fine with no problem, via my sata slot on my nforce4 chipset motherboard.

I updated the 360 with the fall update, then of course I get E66 error. DAMN!

So I read up and the new firmware has a batch file that will generate a firmware to fix it. So I do and go to flash it with the new one and I get the mtkflash errors.  I read up a lot, did the trick where you power off/on, but that method was supposedly to fix bricked drives. I could not figure it out and no guide really said anything.

THEN, after many posts that I read, one guy said, that with the new firmwares, it locks it out from being flashed unless it goes to 0800 mode. DAMN! Yes it was that simple, so I put in the 0800 disc to put it in that mode, then bam, quick no problem firmware, no more E66.

Hope that helps, guides/writeups really need to make that clear, esp for n00bs. I went on a damn hunt.

Me again....

I think this won't help me. My drive isn't flashed, it's still original (that's what I'm about to change (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ).

I'm a noob to the 360 too (But lots of experience with the original XBox), so I just discovered what MS28 means. And I got one of those. Already read up to use the xtreme boot maker, but this doesn't cange a thing.

Hello,

I see its been a while since anyone has posted here but i ran into an issue last night. I have originally updated my firmware back over a year ago. Everything was working flawlessly. I have an MS25 Samsung, i have a VIA VT6421 addon card. Last night i went to use iPrep and i am getting the status=51 error.  Now my drive is already flashed, do i need to place my orignal in the backups folder then go to flash? But it seems the drive is locked somehow correct? Im pretty sure i set it all up properly including using an MS25 flash originally. Should i not be using iPrep? I dont think i used that last time. I do like the fact of booting to the flash drive though. Oh i also have all my drives unplugged except this one, it seems to find it without a problem.

These seem to be the latest of all files from xbins.

Last night i am trying to use the 1.2c flash with current definitions for iPrep.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
