this method doesn't work for me (no wireless contoller as mine is wired) - BUT the HDD method of booting works every single time BUT i need another controller (only have 1 controller) so have sent son down the shop to buy wireless and plug&play charger kit - will post back here results.

ok got the plug&play kit and wireless controller, tried it and that also works a treat, so will use this method instead of the HDD

Only brought a wired controller to work today and want to verify that the soft restart method works with the wired controller as well.

As soon as the console shuts down, just hold the center xbox button until it starts up again smile.gif

nice for you , but that didn't work for me on my 1 wired controller, had to get the charge&play kit. When i used the wired one after console shut down command from dash the DVD DRive wouldn't spin up when restarting via the X button on controller, but would on the Charge&Play.

This xbox360 is a damm finicky console, what works for one person don't work for the next person, lol, but Hey if we get it to work in the end by one method or another then all is good

I have faith that the firmware hack will improve over time. but for now this method seems to help some, me included. At least it will tie us over till improvements are made.

I told a friend about this method and it works for him. He has a Hiatchi 47DH with a Pioneer 110D burner using Verbatim DVD+R DL.   I can't get my Lite-On SHW-160P6S burner with Verbatim, Ridata or Memorex brands to boot at all.  The Pioneer 110D with the V's did it first shot using this method. The drives book-type setting by default with stock firmware is DVD-ROM. I can't stand the HD or switch method. My order has been placed to Newegg already.  I will be ready to go before Friday and will report back. Thanks Cancer Boy.

i tried every trick that has been posted nothing worked   the only thing that got my backups working was to buy a pioneer 111 burner and verbatim dvd+r dl   that worked so good that they boot first try  i dont have to reset or anything   so everyone who is wasting dual layers like i was  think about a new drive

CancerBoy, What firmware version do you have on your Hitachi ? I think people should include this information because I am starting to think the 47D is better at booting then the 46D. Of course I have a 46DH  grr.gif

C4E already stated that this is not a FW problem... hitachi is picky and thats it... and on XBOXHACKER people already discussed how impossible it would be to add delay to the fw itself... very very unlikely

And for the quadrant boot i tested on 10 hitachis and works on all of them with no play and charge... seems like people are either waiting too long or not at al...

Or its possible that certain Hitachi drives might require this as stated before they are picky.

Or another possibility is we don't have the right timing for doing this but if we get it working with a plug n charge kit does it matter?

The only thing that matters is that we get our backups running.
