Wee, just cracked open my xbox 360 and what do you know, it's a 47DJ firmware!! Thank God  biggrin.gif

But hey, now to a serious question: Do you absolutely HAVE to ground the xbox 360 when connecting the DVD-drive to the motherboard with the SATA cable? I read something about using clips from the xbox 360 to the pc chassis.... what's that about? Could anyone post a picture of it? I'm not sure how that should work, but I'd like to be sure that the DVD-drive won't get harmed when flashing it.

And, how many of you guys who actually flashed your Hitachi drive grounded the xbox?

Thanks! (BTW, C4E rocks!)

A nForce4 (SLi) chipset worked for me (the mobo is a DFI NF4 SLi).
I used the wire (sort of: two needles to the pins and a screwdriver as a bridge to trigger mode cool.gif and everything went well, no failed writes or whatever.
DVD still works fine (at least, my DVD-Video are right and the console still boots) but I haven't tried a single game (I'll do tomorrow).

Bye!

Ow, I forgot!
The drive is recognized in "mode A" too, and I was able to read data and run slax from it too... (well, I was a bit confused at the beginning).

My DFI is a N, so no additional controller, only the nVidia one.

C U!

In anticipation of this firmware, yesterday I was screwing around with what people discovered before the firmware was released: ways to get it into modeb, ways to back up the current firmware, etc. Not knowing what the hell it meant to ground something, or having the means to do it, I lazily went ahead and powered my 360 and PC on, connected by SATA, a total of 4 or 5 times, getting it recognized in my BIOS, using the slax CD, etc., etc. I wake up this morning and turn it on, only to be greeted with a non-working 360 and three red flashing lights. So, either not grounding it was the cause, or it simply stopped working; those are the only two conclusions I can come to.

Long story short, ground it to be on the safe side. Croc clips, as described in geebee's tutorial, are very cheap and are available at Wal-Mart I believe.

I didn't ground mine...it was laying an inch off of my carpet floor overnight. I did however touch my PC's case whenever I was swapping cables and such.

I was gonna say stick with Verbatim, thats all myself & a couple of my friends use & we haven't had 1 problem. I also have a Hitachi but im gonna hold onto it, incase this Sammy craps out. From what i've been reading, that really sucks about the media issues with the Hitachi  sad.gif   Anyone having better results with the 47D v1.1?

Yeah, what I don't understand is that I had that Xbox 360 Kiosk demo burned on a Verbatim DVD and it worked fine back then, but now it's "unreadable."  I'll be interested to see how other medias work out.

I tried N3 using a TDK 2.4x DL DVD and when I put it in it tried to read but gave up eventually. I bought 2 packs of five, and the first one i had set to max but the next one Ill try and set to 2x-2.4x to see how it works. Cause from what I hear the mediums that dont work make like a skipping sound or spin way too fast the whole time not just read normal make funky sounds and quit trying. Also does anyone know if N3 is region locked? Ill try a PDZ backup first that is NSTC.

Hi! Im new here, and sorry if my english aint the best. Anyway I tried to flash my drive yesterday. It got recognized in BIOS and everything went well with slax, the problem comes when i restart the computer. The bios is set to always boot the DVD/CD first because to start slax. And when i restart the computer and took out the slax cd it tries to check the xbox dvd for a bootable media. And there it freezes.. Soo anoying. So if anybode have some ideas they are more then welcome smile.gif /Majkey

I can confirm that my PIONEER DVD-RW  DVR-110D and TDK DVD+R DL 2.4x work fine. I tried the N3 again and it didnt read the first time ejected and reinserted and it started but gave me a region coded error wich means it worked. I will be going out and buying more of these now (5 Pack Indvidual Cases for 15USD not to bad as most are 15 Spindel for 40USD in stores). Also, I belive that when I flash to v1.1 (when I find it argh) i wont have the problem of it only working on the second time. Good Show

Why dont you set it to boot the floppy first instead?
Or most computers if you keep pressing the escape key when it starts will bring up a boot menu so you can choose what to boot first.
