Okay, I got slax cd to read the Hitachi but when I reboot (ctrl-alt-del) and boot up in windows it does'nt read the drive.  I have hibernate windows and just turned it off completely so after the slax boot cd wibdows would do a full boot up.  But still nothing.  Any ideas would be great.

so since the hack can run in windows do that mean that a pcmcia sata cardbus card would work on a laptop.

dude im in teh same boat. From what i understand in order to flash the drive in windows it has to be in mode b, and to get it into modeb you have to load up the slax cd or w/e, tho im unclear as to whether you boot in dos and the slax disc runs from there or not...

if it boots in DOS then i'm not too sure if the card will get picked up, because DOS may not carry the drivers for it....that's what i understand tho.

check out this topic:
http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=521586

i posted that earlier today, The Anarchist was pretty helpful and was willing to help me out, and i'm sure he'd do the same for you (especially because i dont plan on flashing mine yet, i'm pretty interested in this new auto-switch chip and of course the devil360).

if nothing else just flash it at a friends house, buy a cheap external enclosure and a cheap dvd drive, and use those for ripping games. as far as i know you SHOULD only have to flash the drive once, unless you plan on going back and forth a lot (for live reasons i'd assume...)

good luck man.

also...wut's all this about ppl not being able to play backups?! Maybe we should get a good/bad media list going...is it only certain games, or media? regions maybe? Or is this maybe just a Hitachi 47D flaw, i guess we'll have to wait and see if the 46D does teh same (though i really so no reason why it'd be different)...mayb the 51 version (i heard something about that...not too sure if that even exists though) was fixed by hitachi and reads DL better.

im having a problem i figured out that to get slax to detect the drive i have to turn the pc on then the 360 on then slax asked for login i used root:toor the typed in reboot took out disc then went into windows then cmd the used the xtreme.bat it said multiple things and after each one it said something about not being able to put it into mode b is that normal? it made the orig.bin so i dont know i cant try it because i cant get wxripper to work i have .net framework 2.0 beta2 cant find one higher and iso buster says that there is no media in the drive

Wow, this seems really easy. Too easy if you ask me lol... Good job commodore4eva!

Good luck with the other firmware versions  wink.gif

Too bad about the media issue, I buy all Ritek media, never had a problem... And if Verbatim is down the tubes too we are in trouble. Ahh well, I have a Sammy anyway. Still though, sucks about the media...

I hope I have not missed this .. I am sure I did..
this is my understanding..but wonder about the dvd key process being the same as samsung .. probably is.

I have done the samsung flash sucessfully and created own backups.. so I understand that process..

so get this hitachi in modeb already explained..
am I right in the next chain of events??

patch xtrm-e.bin with dvd key from orig.bin  or is this not needed?
if needed I assume use keypatcher newest version?

now in samsung flashing you use mtkflash etc  etc to flash the firmware in dos..
to flash xtrm-e.bin CAN you just rename your dvd key patched xtrm-e.bin to orig.bin and run restore.bat??

basically flashing this in windows?    man I hope this makes sense.

::EDIT::

Uhh.. I guess I found it myself..   this works right?  hope it helps someone else also..

xtreme.bat automatically makes a backup of your dvd drive firmware called orig.bin.
Plug SATA cable from DVD drive to PC. Power cable drive still connected to Xbox 360
Ensure Hitachi drive is in 'mode b' either by two wire trick or slax linux boot cd
Go to Windows
Run xtreme.bat batch file from a dos prompt specifing drive letter eg "xtreme.bat g"
All done!
Run restore.bat to revert to original firmware eg "restore.bat g

Boot with CD in Modeb
Run the bat file.

Bat file does everything you need.
Makes a back up and rights/patches to your current firmware.
Done.

Easy.

Ahhh that makes alot more sense lol alot easier too .. thank you!
