Why do people who don't like it always have to read threads containing stuff they don't like and then also post in it that they don't like it. Is it really that hard to just go to do things that you DO like? We allready have countless piracy debates.

hmm...i wonder if maybe this group found a way to see if M$ is trying to detect a hacked firmware, or at least a way around it to keep you from getting banned on live.

its unlikely, i know, i kinda wish someone would work on that....so here's to hopin

I think this was sorta mentioned once..but

It is not 100% fool proof right?
it says it turns ON the hack if a backup is inserted..or turns off if a original is inserted..

then there is something that is ON all the time right?   would this "item" that is ON "listening" , able to be detected also from live?  I guess anything is possible.. but am I on the right track?

How hard would it be to turn off any network in the 360 by modchip?  I would think it would be easy.. but of course it is if not easier to just block the connection from a router anyway right?

"backups" my ass. We all know what this is for.

Man the whole modchip scene is about piracy, if you want to develop homebrew, go take a GP2X , completly opensource!

This solution does sound interesting.  It sounds similar to the NDS PassMe mod-chip.  This mod-chip doesn’t contain a rom replacement, it simply sits between the original rom and the bus, and substitutes bytes (assembler instructions) when reads to certain addresses are actioned.  A firmware IPS if you like.

IIRC DVD-Rom drives eject, close, and spin up with only power connected (and no data connector to the host system).  So, technically, the modified DVD-Rom drive could spin up, check if the media is original or backup, and switch FWs, independently! - all before it begins to respond to any requests from the data cable.

Advisory: Hardware isn't my field.  biggrin.gif

dry.gif  Tell that to the guys at xbox-linux.org

PedrosPad: Yep. Makes you wonder what M$ will/could do about firmware modding. NME would make dumping the firmware and comparing against known pure hashes pointless. Looks like the mouse is ahead of the cat for a little while longer tongue.gif

Seems much easier than the 30 wire mod.  I'd be willing to try it if the price is right.

Yeah, they also make these wild devices now a days called "computers" that allow you to run unsigned code.

Ok the viewpoint of this FW is going to be used for 1 thing and 1 thing alone, consider this: in the future a game is released with a file that can be altered to create and under run and this gives homebrew coders a way in. now the only way to get this file into the 360 is using a modded drive.

Plus I am also interested in this mod however I will probably still get a friend to do the soldiering cause I wont want to fsck anything up.

from my understanding its not exactly a modchip, it seems to have direct communication w/ the dvd drive, which means i should be able to tell if its a backup or not. for instance they could just do a check to see if the dvd drive read it as a regular x360 disc, or if it came back w/ an error that a backup would give

no way , this done between MainBoardCPU and DVD , all data is crypted! and you have to make BIOS Hack on the boot before DVDCPU load the BIOS to memory.

Great idea..  When it detects a backup, force X wire on the network connector to ground out, disabling the network.  Or disconnect the power line.  Configurable with a toggle switch.  That would be a great solution.

Or get up off your ass and unplug the network cable when your running back ups.
