Team Underdog NME-360 DVD Firmware Patch Mod

Right now the dual-firmware mods coming out for the Xbox 360 DVD drives are 30+ wire solutions. These points are not only very hard to solder, but it also requires a lot of known-how to extract the FW from the drive, extract the key, patch, encrypt, write back, install external switch on Xbox 360 so you can switch between the 2 firmwares, etc ...

We received interesting information about a new DVD mod named NME-360, that will be released soon. This chip will be a universal chip for all Xbox360 DVD drives. It will patch the firmware of the drive on-the-fly. The original firmware on the flash of the drive remains untouched.
The chip will recognize independently whether an original or a backup was inserted and switches itself to the corresponding mode (patched FW (on-the-fly) for backups and the normal unpatched FW for originals). That also means you will not have to install an external switch on your Xbox 360 to put the chip off.
For the Toshiba-Samsung drive you will have to solder only 4 wires, the  Hitachi-LG drive will require 11 wires. The official website of the team, named 'Team Underdog', will be launched early next week.

I dont understand, but it sounds pretty awsome.  Anyone with some insight about what this thing is would be nice.  I'm still waiting for the new firmware and am worried about live in the future, so this sounds perfect!

this has to be one of the better ideas for a modchip that I have seen in quite some time... auto switching on the fly between the 2 firmwares... no need for a switch (which is great)... however these chips are still useless for me ... the entire point of a modchip IMOA is to run homebrew, not to run Pirated games. Hell I own like 18 of the xbox 360 games + countless live arcade games.

Currently the OUtfit is one of my fav's ... however this is one small step for man and one big leap for Mod Kind lol

Very interesting...so if it's a firmware mod why do we need wires?  So it's a modchip or what?  I'd like some more info.

Well it's kind of hard not to touch the original firmware without attaching something around it's connection points.

This sounds like your typical firmware chip.  If this is "solderless" then it could be something nice, but chances are, its just a firmware modchip that can autoswitch.  smile.gif  Whoopeee.  Most people who are gonna use the hacked firmware are probably not gonna care if its on all the time or not.  Personally, I haven't bothered with the whoe firmware thing yet for 2 reasons.  1, it's much too complicated flashing and reflashing your drive, etc etc.  2, It only lets you play backups or pirates.  After paying $60 for a game, I'm pretty careful with it.  I don't let anyone else use the 360 at this point, so I don't have a huge need for backups at this point.

Another good reason is my DVD burner doesnt support booktype changing.  sad.gif  (Unless anyone knows of a good firmware mod for that!!! Its the AOPEN DUW1616L-31)

I offer that this is what the Devil360 will be too. In their security info bulletin, they mentioned doing a SED operation on the fly between the console and the DVD (find and replace basically), though they have denied their product being a DVD based workaround.

The Specialist thought that this approach to the firmware mod would be overly difficult to implement in hardware but it seems a group has done it and will possibly beat Devil360 to launch (if Devil360's product is based on the info in that bulletin, rather than what they said later).  unsure.gif

"This sounds like your typical firmware chip. If this is "solderless" then it could be something nice, but chances are, its just a firmware modchip that can autoswitch.  Whoopeee. "

It says right there in the article that it auto patches on the fly. This means that you do not need to dump your firmware in order to patch the downloaded firmware with your new key, etc. More of a classic-style installation, where one mod can be installed on any box. Neat that it automatically turns on when needed. And, yes, some people would certainly like that. Some even enough to consider buying that messy looking GRmod device.

But is it upgradable? and can you force it off if you want to? It says you don't need to... but if you do want to?

Still curious about how the hell the devil 360 supposedly works.

Wow if you could make it disable live when a backup is inserted...that would rock!  As it is, I'll take this over a 30 wire any day of the week.  It seems that some teams have really worked low prfile on some security holes.  Or at least they are claiming to.  Sorry if my skeptical nature is comming out.

Sounds like the best so far. I love the auto detect, so when live starts the banning your already idiot proof. What about the price ? If devil mod is charging  $29 for $5 worth of parts who knows what this team wants.

You're not idiot proof... not quite.

You could still insert a backup while plugged into live.

The only idiot proof option is... not being an idiot.

AFAIK, DVD firmware mods can never be anything but.
The hacking is cool to get to that point but a mass market piracy mod doesn't interest me.
