Why do i have to have .Net Framework 2 installed ?

Hey I keep getting "Error connection to the database :" followed by half a screen of debug code.  Is the central server down or something, or is it just me ?

Cheers,
Muz

do you guys have .NET framework 2.0 installed? check in your "Add/Remove Programs" in control panel.

and make sure it's not beta, that's what my first guess would be

.Net framework is required to run applications created in Visual Studio .Net. It's funny, every PC I have has .Net installed on it (maybe because I do .Net programming lol). I don't see a single reason why people wouldn't have it installed (unless it somehow messes up your computer, but that is very rare). It is delivered via Windows Update as an optional update after all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

This software requires (3) Outbound TCP ports to be open. I know, 3~!

- 139 (Netbios?)
- 445 (MS Active Directory, Windows Share?)
- 1433 (MS SQL)

EDIT: The author should update the program to communicate outbound on port 80, and have a server side script negotiate with the database, etc. That way users wouldn't need to worry about firewalls... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Thanks for the tip.  I'm personally not using a firewall, but have opened up those ports on the ADSL router..still no cigar, get the same database connection error.  I actually didn't think opening up the ports would make a diff if Im the one inititating the outbound connection.

I'm am supised this thing connects directly to the database and not via a web service.  Very strange for an internet enabled app as you say.

Is there an alternative to get the ss.bin files from this databse manually ?

Cheers,
Muz

Some of us are anal-retentive about firewalls, and close outbound ports as well as inbound ports  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)  Better firewalls will even let you filter by application, instead of raw tcp ports, but we won't go there right now.

As far as I can tell, the DB is just to give you MD5 information. Hosting the ss.bin itself would be risky since it is *probably* illegal to do so (no one has ever really tested this sort of thing in a US court).

by the looks of it , it definatly looks like a firewall issue. I cant do anything about it , because im in college and the firewall blocks almost anything .
If its not to much effort the best thing to do would be to make it work through port 80.

Having framework 2 installed doesnt seem like a big problem. Every computer should have it . Since its windows update.

When i get some time i will try and rip some xbox1 games and update them into the database. 1 question though , where can i select what region they are .

i havnt tried yet with the xbox 1 games. Because as i said i cant upload to the database.

But as soon as i get home . which is in three weeks i will download some "legal  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) " torrents . and upload all of the md5 sums to the database.

Does anyone feel like already startin to update torrent md5s?

Very impressive application and idea.

My only suggestion would be for there to be an option to download the SS file off the database.  The files are quite small (2 kB) and this would make the application more user friendly.  Especially if you don't have the needed file and are not sure where to get it.

Thank you!
