Thanks for the tip. I'm personally not using a firewall, but have opened up those ports on the ADSL router..still no cigar, get the same database connection error. I actually didn't think opening up the ports would make a diff if Im the one inititating the outbound connection.
I'm am supised this thing connects directly to the database and not via a web service. Very strange for an internet enabled app as you say.
Is there an alternative to get the ss.bin files from this databse manually ?

Some of us are anal-retentive about firewalls, and close outbound ports as well as inbound ports (IMG:
style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) Better firewalls will even let you filter by application, instead of raw tcp ports, but we won't go there right now.
As far as I can tell, the DB is just to give you MD5 information. Hosting the ss.bin itself would be risky since it is *probably* illegal to do so (no one has ever really tested this sort of thing in a US court).
