DevilMod 360 (not Devil360) DVD Dual Firmware Mod-- Posted by XanTium on June 7 16:26 EST
There seems to be some confusion on the net today: the guys at grmods.com (known for some PS2 modchip and Xbox gen3b and cheapmod-based chips) released some images today on their forums of a Dual DVD Firmware chip they are working on for the Xbox 360.
This product by GrMods called 'Devil Mod 360' is not to be confused with the 'Devil360 modchip' announced yesterday by the Devil360 Team. These are 2 totally different teams and products.

This Devil Mod 360 by grmods is another 'dual-firmare' mod (like you can also build yourself) for the Xbox 360 DVD drive. It's a PCB with a flash in a socket and solderpads to connect to the alternative points of the DVD firmware chip (as the chip itself is in epoxy). There's also a switch so you can easily switch between the original DVD firmware and the one on the 'Devil Mod 360'

Why would they name it the DevilMod 360?  Surely they knew of Devil360...are they trying to confuse people?

who would want to solder all those points when you can just flash the cd rom drive then flash it back when you want to go live.  On top of that, how many people really use live that mod their boxes?

reflashing the drive all the time sounds like it would be a pain because you would have to take it out of the xbox each time?  Flipping a switch seems a lot better than doing something that would take 3-5 minutes to do?  I have no idea whats involved but that's my guess.

Holy solderings batman! That thing turns the easiest softmod we ever couldhave dreamed of into a 4 hour surgery.

Still, good effort. And they couldnt have two more confusing names. Now some clever 3rd party manuf needs to release something called "Xtreme" that has nothing to do with the hack.

Wow I havent seen a mod with so many points since the first XBOX mod I completed. I think that was a 29 pin set...this one looks like 29 or 30 pin. It wasnt too bad but then again I had the comfort of working on a $150 dollar system rather than my "hard to find" $400 360...yeah I think I will wait.

Right now there is no practical reason (in terms of Live) for switching firmware banks between stock and xtreme. We have no idea if the checks will be in the dash, games, live, or a combination of these.

The only reason to have such a chip right now is to switch between the xtreme hacked firmware and the xtreme windows firmware used to make your own backups. I made all my backups at once, so I haven't been flashing back and forth... Nice chip and everything, but not worth soldering all that crap (and Im good at soldering) just for that... Luckily I am not being forced to buy anything lol  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)

I dont see the point of using all of the alternative solder points because if u look, some of the wires still need 2 be soldered to the chip in the drive that STILL has to have the epoxy rempved!

I wonder what the price will be. They can't ask much for it since it's just a simple PCB, socket, BIOS and a switch with wire.

If I wanted a dual boot I'd just do the tighmod360 hack. You can buy all materials yourself and save money.

Only feature I like is that you can switch FW back and forth.
