Mtkflash Hangs With Flashing Cursor, Possible Fix!
« on: June 02, 2006, 07:55:00 AM »

HI, had a problem with MTKFLASH hanging when issuing command at dos prompt, on Via8237(ABit AV8)
It would show the port: and the master/slave:
then cursor would blink on line below,

it stayed like this till reboot or unless i hit ctrl+c, on pressing ESC shows Status 01, should be 70 (like in Iron Mikes thread)

I eventually got it working by following a bit of advise from the Hippo, who got the info from the "how to recover bad flash" tutorial.
The trick is to NOT boot 360 till dos prompt and only boot 360 after you have typed the command but NOT entered it, then as soon as you boot 360 hit enter on keyboard to execute command.

This is how i got it working.

Dont know if it will help all but may help a few so thought best to post this info, if this has been posted previously i apologise, but did not come across this info on here.

Glad to see you are up and running Rampant..

The Recovering from a bad Flash tutorial is at the end of the xbox360firmwaretutorialv13.pdf document.
The tutorial discusses the code 70 responce from the dvd rom, and after reading Iron Mike's post HERE where he had the same problems as you
QUOTE("Iron Mike")
i keep getting this error that mtkflash sees the drive but as soon as i select it it gives me one line:

PORT: 8000 Master/SLAVE a0 - and the cursor keeps blinking and nothing happens

When i abort with Escape it says:

Status 01, should be 70

The switching the 360 on immediatly before executing the mtkflash command line (to catch code 70 responce) procedure described in the Recovering from a bad flash tutorial seemed worth a try.

Did you try having the 360 on, but not connected to the SATA on the computer, and then plug it in after DOS is loaded up? I find I have to do this to get mine to flash.

Yeah, I just do it differently. I keep the 360 on, but I don't hook it up to the SATA port until the dos prompt is loaded.

How long did you let the pc hang for with the cursor flashing?...I waited 2-3 minutes and it eventually started flashing my drive....

Hi, Im having the same problem where the cursor just blinks, but when i hit esc i get "status 51 should be 70" error.Ive tried doing all the methods described in this thread but nothing works. How do you know if your sata chipset works or if its just some setting not configured correctly?
For what its worth my mobo is a asus p4s8x with a  onboard Promise PDC20376 chip.

Is my mobo just not compatible with mtkflash or is this another issue?

im having the same problem with my nforce 3 250 mobo (Shuttle XPC)

ive tried the xbox power on at dos command enter the, mtkflash loads at this point and you get the option to select primary or slave but after that it just hangs...

when you hit esc it will give you status 01  should be 70

tried taking out all cables that weren't being used

using boot maker 3.5

is it just my mobo ?

samsung ms25 drive.. btw..
