Wxripper Method Problem Solved
« on: May 28, 2006, 12:20:00 PM »

Over the past couple of weeks, I've become the expert on the WXRipper Method of backing up my 360 games.

Not all of us are blessed with a DVD player that doesn't complain about a Data Error (Cyclic Redundancy) when trying to dump the data.

If you're having this problem, the most likely fix is changing the first 3 lines of your layout to start with a 'D' instead of a 'C'.

This, however, only creates another problem.  As marking them as "Dummy" sections and burning them creates a DVD with a large blank gap at the beginning.  Putting this disc in your 360 will most likely result in it being confused, making weird noises, ejecting it, or saying that the disc is unrecognized.  Also, putting the disc back in your computer will have DVDInfoPro show it as blank.  Weird.

To solve this problem:
  1. Proceed with marking the first 3 sections as "Dummy" sections and ripping.
  2. After Ripping, use SS Merger 1.4's "ISO Splitter" program to extract the Game Partition as "Game.iso".
  3. This will correctly remove only the game section of the iso.
  4. Use this new "Game.iso" in conjunction with the blank360.iso and the ss.bin for the game with the "ISO Builder" batch from the Xtreme Pack.
  5. Running the .bat file will combine these files and give you a correct iso to burn using the image.dvd and the image.000 that was created for use with CloneCD.
This will successfully create a working backup of your game and has worked for me though other methods won't.  I admit it takes a little longer and finding a DVD drive that rips the whole disc would make this easier, but some of us don't have that option.
  • If you are still experiencing the Data Errors after marking the first 3 sections as "Dummy" (I also had this problem), it is most likely that your disc is scratched.

I hope that this helps people that are stuck like I was.

Out of my 7 games, the only one that required some modifications to one of the sections was Tomb raider.  The others worked fine.

Also, you don't need to extract game.iso from the WxRipped iso.  You are basically removing stuff and putting it back in.  It's an extra step and time that is not needed.  Just patch your WxRipped iso with the ss.bin (I use 1.3 just fine) and it works everytime.

Your idea is good, but calvin is right. You're implying that the xbox360.bat file will magically create the correct information for the video portion, when obviously this is impossible. If you have a dummy using your method, then remove it, the .bat file will just replace your removed dummy with its own dummy, yielding the same result. Maybe the .bat dummy is somehow more reliable than the wxRipper one, but I doubt it, as 0s are 0s, no matter which program makes them.

I wish you had posted this a week ago. Then again, I wouldn't know if my backups were working if I did this, would I?

Haha! :-) You think I haven't tried this?   You think I haven't already "just inserted the SS.bin"?  I'm not knocking your idea or anything, granted that is the way it SHOULD be done.  But we all know that with computers, things don't always work that way.

All I know is that ripping it with wxripper, patching in the ss.bin, and burning it yielded frisbees.

This is a suggestion to a solution if you're doing the steps right and still getting a bad DVD.  I have had nothing but bad discs doing it the "easy" way and doing it my way I've had nothing but successful burns everytime.

I agree with you, though, I wish just inserting would work, but not knowing what was wrong with my burns and then finding that this worked, I figured that I should share it with others.  I thought that was what a forum was for?

So as a disclaimer:
DO THE BURN BY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE TUTORIAL THE FIRST TIME.
IF IT DOESN'T WORK, TRY MY METHOD FOR FUN.

Cheers, all!  Hope this helps someone like me.

PS As far as geebee's comment about it "all" being in his tutorial...
Your tutorial is a pretty nice piece of work, I've been a reader since V7, but let's just say that it's lacking in the wxRipper department and doesn't address the problem stated here.  I don't know why it seems like everyone's duty out there is to bash someone who tries to contribute?!  I found a problem, found a solution and everyone is having trouble with that.

I posted this in the hopes of hearing back from someone else with this problem and saying this fixed it.

I don't think anyone was bashing you for your contributions.  I was just suggesting that something in your particular setup is off as the method that I have been using (the original WxRipper tutorial) does work.  I made coasters in the beginning as well because of small things I did wrong here and there, but in the end, went back and found the parts that I did wrong and corrected them.  I was only suggesting that your suggestion should really be necessary and that perhaps you might find the reason why you cannot seem to get it working.  In the end, I do know computers and they are finicky.  perhaps your DVD reader isn't reading the disks in as well as mine or something to that effect, but if that is so, I don't understand how your process fixes it.

Nevertheless, if it helps other people get their backups working, than it's a good thing you presented what works for you.  Just trying to help.

Just a bit of advice.

You should never post your e-mail in an open thread like this.

Your asking for trouble.

On Topic: I have used Wxripper for most of my backup methods and it has worked perfect.
I use the DVD-Hot-swap method. I have had a few discs give me the CRC error but a little
toothpaste and warm water fixes this problem.

SPEAKING TO THE FIRST post it is my understanding that you have to do all those steps to get a  working disk for no reason when all you have to do is in the layout change the THIRD C TO A D AND THATS IT  you don't have to go to all those steps for no reason when you can do it much much more easy and turst me it works i have burnt all my orginals and they all work perfectly

Why are you pulling up 4 1/2 month old threads to ask a simple question like this?  Try reading in the backup forum, there are probably guides to help you.
