what would it take to crack the 2048 bit encryption I don't really know how it all works, but if the xbox can decrypt it, then it must have the key stored in it somewhere right? If it was possible to crack, then homebrew would be possible correct?

and if were possible to crack it, it would have been done for the original XBox, online banking, National Security and anything else that uses encryption.  Also, the XBox doesn't hold the private part of the key, it only holds the public part.  The private part is used during signing and is store somewhere at MS.  (around bill's neck, a secret usb key he hides in his ass, a super secret computer at MS, no one really knows how or where it gets signed.)

So do you guys just like posting about morals/ethics/piracy just to see how far the thread can get before it's locked?  Every newsworthy post that has come out for the 360 lately has been locked up because people get up on their soapboxes and start preaching about how bad piracy is, and then the pirate kiddies fight back.  This needs to stop right here, right now, no more of this.

1.  Piracy talk is against the rules
2.  Talking about morals/ethics is off-topic here, talk about the firmware
3.  Keep it up, and the thread will be locked
4.  I'm sure the mods of the forums are getting a little pissed at all the flamers here, it can only go so far before they start suspending people for this
5.  The mods have enough shit on their hands to have to take down what should be a quality thread

Please, stop the off-topic discussions about piracy.  Take it elsewhere.  This thread is about the firmware itself.

I hope this happens because that means I don't have to ask for a specific 360 when I buy mine.  Good luck Commodore4eva, make us proud...again.

Can you carry on with the ethical bullshit somewhere else please ?

This thread is designed to inform people of C4E's work, and maybe provide words of thanks and encouragement for his efforts, nobody is forced to use this firmware, and if you dont want to use it, then don't.

With the spring auto-update of the Xbox Live service scheduled for May 23, 2006, you will have access to the Active Download feature in the Xbox Live Marketplace.

With an active downloads list, you receive the following benefits:

Each item that you download is downloaded separately in the background. This lets you continue to use the console while you download an item.
You can stream music, play DVDs or CDs, play arcade titles, and play games while you download an item from the marketplace.
If you start to play an online game, the download is automatically paused while you play the game to help prevent game lag because of network congestion. This helps you receive the best online gaming experience that the network can provide.
All downloads are associated with your profile. If a download is paused or if the download is interrupted, the download will resume the next time that you connect to Xbox Live.
You can add items to the active downloads list at any time by selecting more items from the marketplace.

You will receive a notification in the Xbox Guide when an item starts to download and when the download is completed. You will also receive a notification if the download fails.

Looks like the update was delayed... maybe MS is busy adding something else into it?

biggrin.gif too bad i probably wont use any of these firmware hacks until the scheduled dash update is brought out... wait to see what happens to all these people already using the FW.

grr.gif Anyone that hangs out on live with hacked firmware and running burned games is an idiot.  Just like it's always been - if you need live, stay clean . . . or better yet, follow one of the many dual fw tutorials out there - the consequences are not worth the risk.

And to Commodore, thanks for all your hard work; you've given all of us geeks who love takin s**t apart and making it do things it was never designed to (or in this case, strictly engineered not to) a reason to smile.

There are many posts in this thread that can not be viewed now.
Please keep this on topic.
Do NOT throw stones at each other and as said before do not make this into a piracy debate.
If this persists it only ends one way.
Thanks

Hey, good news for the other half of the unethical thieves with Hitachi drives!

yeah whatever,   I own the PS1 modchip and that had very little do with homebrew.   and MY PS2 chip why bother with homebrew, when when the xbox1 chip plays homebrew so well.     Its not about piracy its about backups, something that is needed in this day and age of the cheapest crappiest media ever invented.  yes the  solid plastic Disk.   them floppy disks sucked too.   Heck even Chips need a backup.

I seem to have the right tools and equipment to try this out but i will wait for the dashboard update and see what happens with all the guys with hacked boxes going live.

if nothing happens and a hitachi fw is released and sometimes later it all gets region free - sweeeet

i dont mean to be rude so no need to flame unless you have something in your a$$, but whats so great about region free? i know what it is, just curious

my thanks go out to commodore4eva

Region free gaming would allow you to play imported japanese / pal games that would open you up to other great games that you would most likely never get a chance to play.

With the amount of money you would save by not buying games, you could easily justify purchasing a second xbox 360 and use it for "non - live" gaming.  Thus no worries about MS ever fixing the problem.  Unless they make mandatory firmware upgrades ala PSP.  but we all know how long that lasted.

this is kinda on topic as it relates to playing region free games using the hacked firmware.
But if it became region free, wouldnt there be video problems playing pal on an ntsc/jap console? Or is the console already to play pal games, just not the dvd drive?
