I seem to have the right tools and equipment to try this out but i will wait for the dashboard update and see what happens with all the guys with hacked boxes going live.

if nothing happens and a hitachi fw is released and sometimes later it all gets region free - sweeeet

I agree,

MS is now looking what they can do about it....
If we can update the flash after the update or they can't see who's DVD using a new firmware.
and it is confirmed by a lot of xbox360 dude's here.  pop.gif  party time

maybe I need some dual layer DVD-Rs ?  biggrin.gif

I give this guy KUDOS and respect for doing this.

I wish him all the best for what he is giving to the scene.

Maybe..just maybe I'll start taking my console apart to get the drive out.

Ya, i prob wont be any of these, right now MS is offering basically everything you need.

and to take the chance on not being able to use live or re flashing everytime u wanna use live is just not worth it to me.

right now with legal apps for media center like vlc360 and transcode for watching divx is perfect.

I hope this firmware allows booting of sing layer discs.

The question is it very difficult to modify the FW to boot single layer media, if not then why wasn't it done?

I could be wrong but I believe the media flag is set to a dual layer disc so we would need to change that to allow single layer disks, which hasn't been done yet.

(can't wait till someone cracks the software side of this)

Put it this way, if X-S trust this guy enough to in-clude this statement in the news section, nobody here has the right to doubt him.

If he wasnt sure that he could do it, he wouldnt have commented on it on xh in the first place, this guy gets results.

This guy indeed will get results! No doubt about that

I thought all of you guys who didnt want to mod your xboxes for fear of being banned from Live! were crazy. That is, until I actually tried Live! when I got my 360 a few days ago. It is so much better than it's previous incarnation. I am almost afraid to mod my Hitachi when the firmware is released.

Is it really possible for M$ to detect which firmware version you have on your DVD drive even if it reports the same version name? Can that be fixed?

No one knows until it actually happens. Them's the risks you take!

what would it take to crack the 2048 bit encryption I don't really know how it all works, but if the xbox can decrypt it, then it must have the key stored in it somewhere right? If it was possible to crack, then homebrew would be possible correct?
