Commodore4eva, the guy that released the firmware hack for the Toshiba-Samsung H943 Xbox 360 DVD drive now posted on the xboxhacker.net forums that he will soon release a similar modified firmware for the Hitachi-LG GDR-3120L DVD drive:

So if iam correct he worked on the hitch fw this weekend when not evn having the drive .

This is the guy who made the Xtreme Samsung Fw - the one that everyone with a Samsung drive is now using.

PabloAM is the guy who was reportedly working on things over the weekend (but obviously wasn't)...

I hope this firmware allows booting of sing layer discs.

The question is it very difficult to modify the FW to boot single layer media, if not then why wasn't it done?

Put it this way, if X-S trust this guy enough to in-clude this statement in the news section, nobody here has the right to doubt him.

If he wasnt sure that he could do it, he wouldnt have commented on it on xh in the first place, this guy gets results.
