Just to confirm, I have an ABIT NF7-S motherboard and MTKFLASH definitely does not work (unmodified) with this motherboard. You have to run msinfo and use the information from the SATA controller there to hex edit MTKFLASH to force it to search the correct controller/port.
This caused me many hours of despair yesterday under the assumption that MTKFLASH supported my motherboard when it actually didn't.
Another point to note... whatever you do, do not use XVI32 to hexedit MTKFLASH.exe or the firmware file. XVI32 somehow modifies a file when you save changes to it, and although it seemed to do the trick with MTKFLASH, it screwed up my modded firmware file. As a result of this, my XBOX booted up with some kind of error and red lights flashing, and my PC wouldn't boot past the BIOS with the DVD-Drive connected thereafter. I easily resolved this by powering on my XBOX
after DOS had loaded and then re-flashed the firmware.
I recommend Hexedit, a simple but effective free to download hex editor.
Available here:

Just thought I would post these few pointers to ensure that other folks don't experience the same problems as I did.
I haven't actually tested my XBOX yet as my DVD burner doesn't support changing the booktype (bitsetting). So, I have ordered an LG GSA-H10A (which according to
http://www.videohelp.../dvdwriters.php does support bitsetting), and I am hoping that everything is going to work as intended once I received it.
