Anyone with the FW=ms19, etech4sale.com Samsung drives can get the firmware written by following the firmware recovery explaination in the tutorial...but it not clear enough.
Today, I tried one last time, since the tutorial mentioned something about the Samsung drive waiting for a Code 70...it actually occurs right at the drive being powered up.
The tutorial needs to be re-worded:
1. Plug your Samsung drive (turned on or off depending on which PCI 6421 card you have) into SATA1, and boot your PC with the DOS floppy.
2. Get your PC to recognize that SATA1 has a Samsung drive on it (for me it was actually item #3, since my DVD and CD are identified as Master/Slave secondary IDE port)
3. Turn off your Samsung drive.
4 Then, press #3 VIA6421 (SATA1 Master). Get the "Port df00, Master/Slave: a0"....at this point SATA1 is listening for code "70"
5. Then, turn the Samsung drive back on...it should start flashing immediately, as the code 70 is produced as soon as the Samsung drive is energized.
The directions in the tutorial are actually reversed...it says to turn the drive on and then press 1...by the time you press #1 it's too late, the drive has already produced code 70...
You should actually press #1 first, see "Port df00, Slave/Master a0" and then turn the Samsung drive back on...worked everytime...doing it this way.
FINALLY!
