Complete Firmware Tutorial V40: Samsung And Hitach

Awesome guide..... it pretty much got me through everything.

Here are a couple of things that i found might help:

Opening the xbox: Although there are other guides i think by just adding how to take the side parts off i could have done it all with just your guide.
A picture of where the clips are on the side panels would have helped explain where they were (i should have taken a picture while i was doing it. Next box i will and put arrows on it so its easier to explain where the actual clips are).
Apart from that i think opening the xbox was pretty much covered.

Backing up Hitachi LG drive:
Would be nice to add to extract the Commodore4Eva firmware pack to a folder.

Cheers again awesome guide smile.gif

I can not find how to extract my Hitachi's key.  I know you dont need it for the firmware patch but I was hoping to extract the key so I could flash a new samsung drive with that key to install in my 360.  What is the best way to get the key? Will KDX work?  Can someone tell me how?  Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone,

A quick question. Is there a way to extract the Security Sector from an image without opening up my 360console over and over. I'm using the WxRipper method to dump a raw image i want to be able to extract the ss from that raw image. It defeats the purpose of using the Wxripper method if you open up the console to extract ss. If someone could please guide.

Thank You,

Anyone with the FW=ms19, etech4sale.com Samsung drives can get the firmware written by following the firmware recovery explaination in the tutorial...but it not clear enough.

Today, I tried one last time, since the tutorial mentioned something about the Samsung drive waiting for a Code 70...it actually occurs right at the drive being powered up.

The tutorial needs to be re-worded:

1. Plug your Samsung drive (turned on or off depending on which PCI 6421 card you have) into SATA1, and boot your PC with the DOS floppy.
2. Get your PC to recognize that SATA1 has a Samsung drive on it (for me it was actually item #3, since my DVD and CD are identified as Master/Slave secondary IDE port)
3. Turn off your Samsung drive.
4 Then, press #3 VIA6421 (SATA1 Master). Get the "Port df00, Master/Slave: a0"....at this point SATA1 is listening for code "70"
5. Then, turn the Samsung drive back on...it should start flashing immediately, as the code 70 is produced as soon as the Samsung drive is energized.

The directions in the tutorial are actually reversed...it says to turn the drive on and then press 1...by the time you press #1 it's too late, the drive has already produced code 70...

You should actually press #1 first, see "Port df00, Slave/Master a0" and then turn the Samsung drive back on...worked everytime...doing it this way.

FINALLY!

Asking the same question as a poster from a couple of pages back...

I am unable to get any response from dwl.xbox-scene.com to download the guide, either in firefox or IE. I have tried direct click, and also save as options, but they time out.

I have also tried being both logged in, and logged out.

I must be doing something wrong, but can;t work it out! Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance!

I want to try out the 47 ss extraction, and geebee's guides save flicking around between web pages when you are trying to concentrate on not bricking the drive.

Sure, this is added to the tutorial less than 24 hours after (i think) i bricked my drive!

None the less, good work!

When you are running the f900 firmware, and you try to play a game, does it give you the Please insert in a 360 screen? I got that screen (even with an original game) and flashed firmware back using restore.bat, and i still get that screen

Just a quick question regarding the Connectivity Kit and sammy.  Can this be used to power the sammy or is it recommended to do the various in-box powerups, etc.?  I've searched around for connectivity kit + samsung info, but nothing actually addresses this.  Just wondered if anyone has tried the CK w/ the samsung.  Most references I've found are w/ hitachi's and the modeb options.

Thanx dry.gif

Neither. The f900 Fw will extract the ss.bin for you but it won't work . There is something missing on ss.bin's extracted using the f900 FW. And you can't use the dvdinfopro method either.

Really?

It seems like I would have heard something about this, but you're the first person I have heard say that.  Can anybody else confirm/debunk this, as I haven't tried it out myself yet.

The tutorial says "remember: you need a samsung drive to make the ss file", is this correct? If so, what is the point of flashing the dvd drive if you can't make the ss file, which means you can't make backups? Please advise. Thanks
