Complete Firmware Tutorial V40: Samsung And Hitach
« Reply #150 on: October 29, 2006, 05:34:00 AM »

Hi Everyone,

Wow, so much is happening with the 360 and the modders community.
I'm just jumping in and reading, learning, finding out what the go is with moding my 360.

It's been a while since I've been involved with xbox tinkering, since Slayers installer.
Just wanted to say to all those who have contributed to the tutorial work here.

Thanks heaps, great work, keep it up, its a fantastic contribution. It's helped me
fast track my way forward and to get updated very quickly.

Cheers & Thank You   cool.gif

Hi. I 'd like to congratulate you for your tutorial. Yet I 'd like to inform you that ALI m5283 sata chipset works fine. I hex edited mtkflash to support m5283 and more than 25 people have downloaded it, with no negative feedback. Here is the link http://rapidshare.de/files/37452757/MTKFLA..._m5283.rar.html
My pci sata controller is CHRONOS with m5283. Any feedback would be most welcome.

Hi all, Can someone please tell me what the tutorial exactly means when you have to open a dos prompt in the desired folder? When I open a dos prompt, it always reads c:\documents and settings\. How do I get it to show c:> as required in the tutorial, I can get it to read C> but I am not sure if that is right. I am trying to flash an Hitachi drive. I have put all the relevant files into drive c, the drive is recognised by windows as drive E. HELP!
Please can some one point me in the right direction!
I have already successfully helped my friends to flash their samsungs but one of them had to give me Hitachi LOL

cheers in advance!

I just searched command prompt, for me it was in C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories, then just copy it to the folder with all your opa xtreme files.  Then just use that command prompt in your opa folder

You're putting the Slax CD in your computer, right?

Newby Alert! I may be a bit out of place posting here but it's late and I have spent a whole day trying to change the firmware on the Samsung 25 drive. I took the thing apart thinking I had the hard part done.

I have a Asrock 939 Dual sata 2 motherboard. I connect the 360 to the pc and I do get the drive to show up in the bios. However I cannot for the life of me even do the first simple step of backing up the original bin file. It just keeps telling me "No drive detected". I can't figure this out. I have tried messing with all settings in the bios. I have even tried booting from the dvd drive (which I know is stupid but I was desperate).

Is there anyone out there that wouldn't mind helping a newb out? I would like to flash to the most recent extreme or whichever is the best out there. You guys know your stuff and I am asking for your help.

Please email me at [email protected] or add me to msn.

Thanks guys I am so stressed out.........I do appreicate the hard work that goes in to this.

LeeDzEniuM,

I have the same board and the Uli chipsets aren't compatible. I'm still learning myself, you should be able to edit mtkflash to work with your chipset though. I know all intel chipsets work as is.

Hello everyone! Im a moob to the 360 Ive modded lots of my friends regular $boxes, and have gotten pretty good at it. My question is this: I have a Globe 360 modchip so do I have to modify my firmware just to play backups? The Globe 360's website says there is no need to mess around with all these different firmware updates, and also states that this chip has a stealth mode for internet play. If i could download games or somehow get my hands on a friends backup couldnt I just use this chip and not even replace the original firmware? Also has there been something figured out for the hitachi ver. 0078fk drive or is this drive still the nemesis of the modworld?

Yes with the modchip you do not need to flash the drive. Just solder the modchip in and that should takes care of it. The chip actually shuts down the xbox network so it will not connect to live when a backup is inserted. Once an original is inserted the Network is enabled.

Does modding the firmware on a drive decrease its life or something?

or is the main reason for people needing new drives because of errors when flashing?

also I heard that *I* need to rip my own game because of something to do with every drive being different, is this true?

May want to update the guide with the following:

The section regarding recommended cards has the following:

In the UK, get http://svp.co.uk/pro...lo.php?pid=1248 confirmed working
(Newlink 2-Port Serial-ATA PCI Card (1-Int / 1-Ext))   Thanks for testing, ThraXed!

I just got that card yesterday and its the rather buggy (from reports on here and that it locks up randomly when flashing/reading from the Samsung drive) ALI M5283 chipset.
After using it I am now left trying to recover my bricked drive at the moment. Would just like to point out that one of the other SATA controllers may be a more reliable choice for people.
