Haha, nice. I think MS is worried  beerchug.gif

My hitachi here is perfectly fine.... Maybe M$ can't fix the hack, and this is the Only way (don't think that is!). In my opinion MS will have a nice encrypted new firmware ready to flash, and this glue prevents someone to take the ss chip out and program the chip itself

if it's really epoxy, it will break the traces during a force removal

Epoxy is considered a permanent adhesive. However, if you need to remove it, apply acetone or Easy-Off Oven Cleaner to the epoxy and let it sit for awhile. Eventually, the epoxy will soften and can be pried from the surface with a putty knife. Remember to test the oven cleaner on an inconspicuous area before applying over a large area.

So sounds like neil polish can handle it, not sure if it would damage pcb though.

Mini drill with wood-tip, drill down to reach leg, dip wire in conductive compound (silver grease, mercury), insert wire, glue into place to hold wire and compound inside.

Repeat for all legs, solder piggyback onto protruding wires.  biggrin.gif

Hmm well there must be away round it! And there cant be many of the "anti hack" 360's out there atm, so go stock up on the hackable ones now, while you still can!  pop.gif lol

Maybe just get a small drill bit so you can drill out the epoxy/glue above the pin you need to get to, so you can fill the hole with solder then you can go ahead and install the other chip on top? Or just connect it with wires and fix the chip in a safe place.

Yeah right Yoergen, do that for all 32 legs with 32 working wires after the install.

Pain in the ass job!

Wow, M$ acted pretty qiuck, why do i get the feeling that in a year when the 360's fully hacked, we'll see new 360's that are just a solid block of epoxy? lol

I think there's a spy among us ph34r.gif

I think they've been doing this for longer than a week, remember they would have to design that alteration, then manufacture the drives with the glue in them, then put them through quality control, then distribute them.

They've probably been that way for a while.

QUOTE
I know this sounds funny, but I have done it to several of my cards and infact to my 9700 that I am still using. Put it boiling water for about 10 sec. then the epoxy will just wipe off. What I did was take a 12in frying pan and put about 1in of water in it and heated it up until it just started to boil lightly. I placed the card in the water using thick rubber gloves and then removed it after about 5-10 sec. I used a 100 percent epoxy mix to glue my BGA ramsinks on and they twisted right off with very little force. I then turned the card over and repeated for the other side. When I removed the 2nd side I used my compressor and blew the water off the card very well and let it dry for about another hour and reinstalled is. It worked like a charm. I have done this with several cards and a couple of motherboards that I used Conformal Kote on. I first use carb or brake cleaner and a medium toothbrush to remove most of the Conformal Kote and then I finish up the job with the boiling water trick and then soap and water in the sink. They look like new and you can hardly tell that I had ever sprayed them.

I'm glad MS did this. Step one in preventing piracy.  Since this doesn't help us run homebrew, I'm happy MS did this.
Now let's stop wasting our time on firmware hacking and ALL point our effors towards running homebrew like we should have in the beginning.

Dude, a small exploit can lead to the exploit we all want. If you want a full homebrew compatible hack, you need to search every way possible...

Besides you could use a Dremel to remove this shitty epoxy and connect wires to dump this firmware through an EPROM-reader.  However I donĀ“t agree with the guy who is happy about this. You just sound like a fart who is against the research of ways of running backups. These drive loop-holes could acutally be useful to find exploits.
