SS.bin Confusion
« Reply #15 on: May 20, 2006, 08:55:00 PM »

also what would be usefull if users knew what kind of symptoms mean the ss and iso are mismatched

e.g.

so far i have come across 2 "behaviours" of my xbox360

1) the tray status says "Reading..." and it just stays there like that
2) displays an Unrecognised disc message

im planning to finally dump my own iso and ss today, we'll see if it was a firmware issue or ss+iso issue for me... then i'll be able to shed some more light on the problem

well, part of the SS is the response to challenge type 5 & 7 which are timing challenges. People extracting SS's from the same disc have found that these reponses can differ by 1 bit. The hashes of the SS will be different even though both would work and are from the same disc - however the mission is to show which ss files work and do not work - so this wouldnt make much difference.

it just doesn't work. full stop. end of story. no need for any list of behaviours.

As I see it the SS list is not legal to post as its linking to what is copyright code after all. Downloading part of something extracted from a game is still piracy.
By the way FatB0y when you get banned from here as LamerHunter don't bother making new accounts it's so obvious.
Links to the list will be removed now don't post them again. If you feel this is incorrect take it up with HSD he has the final rule on this issue.

Ok.... welll.......
Another behaviour i've noticed is that the DVD drive reads the disc... and after the "reading...." status it goes back to "Open Tray" yet the tray is closed and the disc is not reading.

It would be good to straighten out these "behaviours" because then we'll know what we're doing wrong...

For example...

If the status says: "Reading..." and does not get past this point then the burn is bad
If the game starts and then displays "Unrecognised disc" means its a mismatch between ISO and SS
If the status says: "Open tray" yet the disc is in the drive but not being read it means its a bad burn

it would be good to have a collection of those, coz it can get a little frustrating trying to get these backups going.... especially with 6$AUD per DVD+RW it does get costly. I already wasted 7 DVD+RW's and have only managed to burn 5 discs succesfully.

What is the position on the SS files.  Are they illegeal to post? The only place I have seen them so far are the usenet and there are still a few (NTSC) that I can't fine.

Well, they involve backups, which involve piracy.

This would likely be stopped as well just like the posting of NFO files  were

XS is here to help you BACKUP your own investment. Not to help you with files downloaded elsewhere.. whether you claim to own them or not.

Open your shit up, make your own files.. backup your own games.

1.Match the region of the disk to the console

2.Clean the disk with a soft cloth

3. restart the console

Does this have to do with the ss

Hello,

I have a related question but the other way round: extracting the iso itself doesnt work for me, it goes so slow that after a whole hour its only at 2% ripping. (at best) I have succesfully extracted the ss.bin however. So would it work the other way round? To use my own ss.bin on a random PAL iso, even if that iso originaly had another ss?

I find it strange though that my ripping is so slow, since I have a Atlon 3200 PC.
