Editing Mtkflash To Work With Your Sata Chipset
« Reply #90 on: May 27, 2006, 03:33:00 PM »

Thanks Grim for the feedback. I finally got mines to recognize and flash

Heres how I done it

I was pulling my hair out trying to get this to work. But I found the solution thanks to Grim and a Lot of patience..

Hook up your Toshiba DVD Drive (no Power) to the sata channel that your hard drive was on.Make sure that no other IDE devices are connected.

Load up your boot floppy, make sure to use the MKT flash for ALI chipset! (Do a little reading in Grims forum,he posts a link to it)

Dont ask me why it works this way it just does!

when you get to the prompt A:>  POWER UP YOUR XBOX!
Then type in dir (dos commmand for directory)

It will list all the files on your floppy

From here at the next prompt type

mktflash r backup.bin

It should begin to backup your firmware file!

Follow the same steps when you go to flash the firmware, but use the flash command
mktflash w xtreme.bin (you should have edited this with the security key from you original firmware.

Thats it !

I tried this on TWO different ALi chipset and they both worked with this procedure,

I hope this helps everyone who has been having issues with this chipset!

Thanks again to Commodore4Eva for the formware and Grim for the assistance!!

Hi,

Not sure of this will help anyone but I have edited mtkflash to use the following SATA controller.

Name      Intel® 82801GB/GR/GH (ICH7 Family) Serial ATA Storage Controller - 27C0
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C0&SUBSYS_B0021458&REV_01\3&13C0B0C5&0&FA
I/O Port      0x0000F000-0x0000F00F

I have a Gigabyte GA975x motherboard.

I tested this and it now flashes the DVD drive.  It brings the ICH7 controller up as ICH6 as that is the entry I modified.

ya but then you will need to run from your hdd (if you don't have a FAT partition you will need NTFSdos.exe (Google)

hi there been following these forums for a while now but im mostly a reader not a poster
im wondering if someone could help me out
ive tried atleast 50+times now to flash my drive without look cant even get the original bin file from the drive
ok this is my specs

asus a8n-sli premium nforce 4 with onboard sil3114 sata
i also have a via vt621 pci sata raid card
ts drive hw04 with firmware ms25 as stated on drive itself
ive edited mtkflash many times before using the method in the tutorial 1stly for the nforce 4 and also for the via chipset pci card
am i doing something wrong cause when ever i type mtkflash r /m orig.bin or other variations of that inc mtkflash r /sata /m orig.bin etc it asks to pick a channel and always shows either via or the nf4sat2 depending which 1 i use  but then which ever i choose it just has a flashing _ but nothing else
ive tried hotswopping and many variations of booting xbox with and without sata attached just always same thing
at 1st i thought it was my mobo sata at fault so i went and bought a pci card with the exact chitset said to work ie via vt6421

here is my drives id no.s etc and how i entered them into mtkflash can someone have a look and tell me if anything ive done is wrong

I'm having the same problems with this motherboard - A8N SLI Premium deluxe

My Samsung Drive F/W is also ms=25  H/W=005      January 2006

I have tried all kind of different variations like u suggested Grim187 - didn't work so far

I'm starting to think that it really might be that particular Samsung Drive with FW ms=25...

Can anybody confirm if he has succesfully patched such a drive (Samsung FW ms=25) ?

Any help VERY appreciated.... wink.gif

Hey Grim,

here's sth for u....

Okay as stated before i have a samsung drive FW MS25.... I believe more and more that this is the reason why it can't be flashed (othe people keep reporting the same problem).... In all the other threads i read so far it said FW MN25....
But let's just believe it is possible - i keep getting this error that mtkflash sees the drive but as soon as i select it it gives me one line:

PORT: 8000     Master/SLAVE a0 - and the cursor keeps blinking and nothing happens

When i abort with Escape it says:

Status 01, should be 70

Now i have tried to read the FW of my PC DVD Drive just to see if MTKFlash would function with this one...

No, same result - keeps giving me the same lines (with different values)...

Any idea ? Sounds like a MTKFlash problem to me so far....

Thanx for your help

P.S.: By the way i've tried all kind of variations using all kinds of SATA Ports (i got 8 on the mobo) and hotswapping and all that stuff - same result all the time....

I've tried the "normal" MTKFlash and the MTKFlashNF4 (which is the only one "working") since i have a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo...

One more thing: i'm using a pen drive (usb stick) to boot into DOS

where you useing "MTKFlash r /m /SATA orig.bin"?

I just wanted to say that it makes a "BIG" difference how you type things in on a command prompt in Dos. I had been typing the above line as "mtkflash r /m sata orig.bin. I would add this in on the PDF tutorial as a second option. I was about to give up and throw in the towel before I tried this. I can't believe it worked...

I would recommend anyone try the above command that is having problems. Before typing the above command all my drive would do is just blink and freeze. It would not dump the firmware at all.

I have been pulling my hair out for 16hrs over a freakin slash before the SATA. Thanks for the quote Grim. I can now 100% confirm backing up my firmware and I'm moving on to the next step.

I using the mtkflash (N4) edited version that was included in the relase package.
My mobo is a Gigabyte with the Nvidia Nforce4 chipset.

Good luck to everyone else.

the reason y you cant read the firmware on your IDE Devices is because you dont have MTKFlash edited for you IDE Chain
