Editing Mtkflash To Work With Your Sata Chipset
« Reply #571 on: August 27, 2007, 10:25:00 PM »

My Motherboard is a Gigabyte K8N51PVM9-RH.  Chipset is NForce 430 by Nvidia.  Did you try editing your MTKflash?  And remember you have to use the 0800 disc process to disable firmguard (if your current firmware has firmguard.)  If you're worried about it not working the worst thing that can happen is it doesn't work.  After all you're just reading/backing up the firmware that is currently on the drive.  I mean, that is the first step unless you don't need your original firmware for safe keeping.  But reading it first would be a good way to test rather than just trying to write the new firmware to the drive.

Read my original post   http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?s=&...t&p=4094503

and follow everything i did.  This took me about 12 hours of searching for an answer that i already had and just forgot.  The enable 0800 disc.  I had already flashed my drive with Xtreme 4.2.  It has firmguard which prevents you from writing or reading the firmware.  You have to unlock it to read or write.  I noticed alot of people posting the same problem which is when they select (in MTKflash) which port their drive is connected to and they get something similar to this:          port: 1f0, Master:b0

And then it just hangs there.  Mine kept doing that and i (the dumbshit i am) forgot about the disabling of the firmguard.

jrokker69 thanks for the answer. As i said before i do know how to flash and reflash drives. And i know about 0800 disc. I almost throwed my MS28 in the wall cause it wouldnt read (before i knew about the 0800 disc). But thanks any way.
Just one more thing, when i edited it on Hex Workshop there was no B370, there was only B360. So i edited exactly where Grim187 selected to edit ("0611 4931 F001 7001"), but didnt put my Chipset cause i dont know what to put.
If you could give me a help, id apprecciate a lot, thanks.

thanks a lot

abrasmateus     I don't think putting the chipset in matters.  I'd search around the web for a modified version of Mtkflash for your chipset (that is if it even needs a modified one). My chipset needed a modifed version, because mine wouldn't work with any other version of MTKflash.  I'm not sure if that's because previously i did not hex edit it.   Either way, i downloaded a modified version of MTKflash for my NForce 430 chipset and i also hex edited it.  I only modifed the first 8 letters/numbers.  In your case it would just be the 0611 4931 part.  .  I do not think putting the name of the chipset matters, even if it comes up with something else.  What i think matters is knowing which port your xbox drive is connected to.  This can be determined by hooking up the xbox drive to the pc.  Powering on both at the same time (or xbox first).  Then going into the bios setup utility and looking for where it shows what port the drive is connected to.

I.E:  port1, master

Then when you run mtkflash, pick the right one.  Hell, pick 1 at a time if one eventually works then you know that's the one to pick next time.

I HAVE  A MAJOR CORRECTION FOR YOU:    You said (and i quote)      "there was no B370, there was only B360"
Both of these are wrong!!!  When you go into the hex editing program.  Hold CTRL and hit G.  Type in:   B3D6  and hit search/go/whatever

The program Then brings the flashing cursor down to exactly the B3D6 spot.  Maybe you are looking at the left of the screen where it shows the start of a line.  You should not be looking at this number.  You may be getting confused or do not fully understand how hex works.  I did this same screw up too the first few times i tried to hex edit my MTKFlash.  Just trust me!!!  When you search for B3D6 it will bring you exactly there.  You should then change the 8 numbers to the right of the flashing cursor to 0611 4931. Those are the numbers you said you found in your msinfo32. thingy.

Ok thanks a lot for the answer. But if i change back to 0611 4931 it will become the same as the original mtkflash. Except for the 8 others bit. I changed 16bits from it.
This was the original one: 0611 4931 F001 7001

The numbers i got reading the tutorial was: 8680 2028 3831 3031

So i changed it.

The original MTKFLASH wont work with my pc. So the only solution is to edit.
So the thing is, shoud i replace all the 16bits i got from my pc, or just the 8bits as you said?
thanks a lot.

I would replace just the first 8.  Which would be 8680 2028.  And pay attention to the first post i made and all the steps i went through, because those specific steps might help you with no drive detected errors.

Where can I find those at? And is it a definite that I have a SATA controller in my computer?

no, i just assumed if your trying to edit mtkflash for your sata chipset that you can looked and found a sata port in your computer.

QUOTE(NathanJC @ Aug 21 2007, 05:30 AM) View Post

Now that I have my hex value (0111 2216 0034 002c), where do I inject it into mtkflash using Hex Workshop? Every tutorial I have found is no help to me as they only edit values for chipsets listed that they own (mine's a Initio inic1620 S-ATA Adapter).  uhh.gif

well you can use my tut.

p.s. the name of the chipset doesnt matter, but you can change it in the text side of hexworkshop just by overriding it.

OK. This is the first time i try to manual edit mtkflash. Ive flashed a lot of drives but was using VIA Chipset. The thing is, can i edit it since my chipset is INTEL now?I mean, if i edit, will it work?
thanks a lot.

This is my info:

Name                    IntelĀ® ICH8 4 port Serial ATA Storage Controller - 2820
Manufacturer   Intel
Status                   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2820&SUBSYS_514D8086&REV_02\3&18D45AA6&0&FA

MY sequence is
86802028
38313031
is that right?

PS: This info is under IDE not SCSI
and there is another one just like this but with some few diferences

unless your doing the vcc trick or the drive is already flashed and you use the 0800 disk this wont work for ms28, yes that is right.

p.s. Intel along with some others are always in ide, where via and many more are always in SCSI.

b370 is a marker in hex that i used to get you in the general location, if i hadn't put that part in i would have had to tell you to scroll down until you found chipset names in the text part which would have been really frustrating for most.

Mine worked fine contrary to someone telling me it wouldn't.

i have edited the tut with some per drive answers to "will your chipset work".

thanks a lot Grim187.
Just one more thing, do you think i should replace all those 16bits?or only the 8 first bits as jrokker69 said?
And do you think there will be any big difference between these two ways?

well with most of the chipsets its fine just replacing the first 8 since that's the device id (so mtkflash can recognize the decive) with some (like the A rev of the via card) you have to edit in the last 8 because mtkflash will not automatically find the ports, you can try with just the first 8 and if that doesnt work do the whole 16.

Grim187 Thanks for your editing tutorial.  I was able to read a lot of your answers to other questions and find solutions without asking you directly.  Great Job!!!

I can't find any SATA info in msinfo32. I have a Biostar TForce4 SLI mobo. It has a NForce4 chipset I believe. I've found no drivers for download on the biostar site. My mobo has 4 SATA ports. Any ideas?

Someone please help me.  I have been at this thing for hours and tried every possible suggest on countless message boards.  I purchased a SY-VIA-150R SAT card (VIA VT6421L), installed v560a drivers.  I have used Extreme33.rar files along with Extreme Boot Maker to setup a bootable USB.  I believe this program does the Hex Edit, correct?  It located my SATA card (which shows as being setup correctly in Windows, no yellow or red) and assigned the Device ID and I/O port.  11063249 / DE00DD00

I have been using several video and text tutorials that are directed at the Toshiba TS-H943 dvd drive (MS28).  I have tried every possible combination of starting one device before the other, connecting multi components to the SATA card including even a cable that led to nothing.  If I wait until the command prompt before starting the xbox, often it will lock up the entire computer.

All of this and when I run SAMREAD r /m orgin.bin, there are no devices found.   When I had a dvd player attached to the IDE port, I received the ... a04 error and it would sit there until I hit ESC.   Other than that, the SATA card has never once been found.

Everything has been disconnected and disable from Bios as well.

There is a SATA Raid Controller Card Bios that comes up prior to my USB drive booting.  If I have the xbox up and connected during this process I get the following message:

Hardware Initiate Failed, Please Check Device!!!  The Bios does not be installed.  Press <g> to Continue!

-  Terrible English, but that is beside the point.

I cannot think of anything else to try.  I have seen this particular card and chipset promoted all over these boards.  I've been told that following the tutorials shoud be a breeze.  Is there something I am just missing?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

-  Daniel
