I was just informed, editing MTKFlash is not needed with Xtreme BootMaker as you select your SATA controller and it autoperforms the edit itself. Is this correct??

Editing Mtkflash To Work With Your Sata Chipset
« Reply #518 on: January 23, 2007, 04:12:00 PM »

Hi folks, hope someone can help me out with my setup.

I've used the xtreme boot maker (following Textbooks tut to the letter) to flash my bios but I get stuck when I boot from my USB key, run samread... and then select the device from the list. The app just hangs and my only option is to press escape and halt the process.

I have tried cd/hard disk combo using ntfsdos to see if that makes any difference in case my usb key was failing to write, but after further research in the forums I reckon the problem stems from the fact that my dvd-drive cannot read. (mtkflash does offer me two options to choose from number 1 is 'EXTREME' and number 2 is 'Si3114' I have tried both and got the same result for each.)

As well as using the samread batch file, I have also run the mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin command manually which yields no better result.

My setup is a Asus K8N-E Deluxe with the Si3114 (SoftRaid5) chipset onboard.
I am using the master port on the primary channel of the onboard sata.
I have the Samsung M25 dvd drive.

My info from msinfo32 is:

Name   Silicon Image SiI 3114 SoftRaid 5 Controller
Manufacturer   Silicon Image
Status   OK
PNP Device ID   PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3114&SUBSYS_81361043&REV_02\4&22775069&0&6070
I/O Port   0x0000C400-0x0000C407
I/O Port   0x0000C000-0x0000C003
I/O Port   0x0000BC00-0x0000BC07
I/O Port   0x0000B800-0x0000B803
I/O Port   0x0000B400-0x0000B40F
Memory Address   0xFF5FF400-0xFF5FF7FF
IRQ Channel   IRQ 19
Driver   c:\windows\system32\drivers\si3114r5.sys (1, 5, 10, 0, 197.30 KB (202,032 bytes), 05/09/2006 18:48)

So I think to edit the hex of mtkflash.exe manually I would need to enter in 9501 1431 and 00C4 00BC (Is that correct?)

It's been ages since I've done any hex editing and I am a little unsure that I am selecting the appropriate characters. If I select where is says 'Si3114' on the right hand side in Hex Workshop the actual hex selection in the main screen is not four sets of four digits but it actually selects: '53 6933 3131 34' (with those exact spacings/groupings). What/how exactly should I be selecting to ensure I get it right?

I understand from reading through a lot of this thread already that the chipset entries are separated by '0000' (Is that right or have I misunderstood?)  but there are some instances where sequence in the hex has '0000 0000' so I cannot tell from which entry I should start my selection.

Anyone else managed to get this combination of pc mobo and 360 dvd to work?
Any pointers much appreciated. Cheers.

I have continued digging and have found several comments saying that the Si3114 is just as useless as the Si3112. I'm now buying a VIA 6421A PCI card instead. Hopefully have more luck with that.

Still that'll take a couple of days to reach me so if anyone knows how to get my existing setup flashed, please let me know.

360 Drive: Samsung m28
PC Motherboard: Asus P5N32 SLi Deluxe
PC Motherboard chipset: nforce

Hi, Ive been reading up on mtk flash but still can't get it to work. Here's what I've done so far:

(IMG:http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/3295/ms8yx.gif)
Here's my drive info

From this i reckon the numbers I need are 9510 3231 00CC 00C8

(IMG:http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/4093/original8qi.gif)
Here I think is where they should go

(IMG:http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/7205/edited7gc.gif)
This is what it looks like after editing

I've saved this MTKFLASH.EXE and copied it onto the properly formatted MS DOS startup disk.

I then turned off my pc, removed my 2 sata hdd's and plugged the sata from the xbox into 'SATA1'. Next I booted into my bios and turned off RAID then saved and exited.

Rebooted into DOS and tried MTKflash r /m backup.bin also tried mtkflash r mydump.bin and mtkflash r backup.bin

None of these commands brought up my drive - can anyone tell me where i am possibly going wrong with this?  Many thanks

I have been reading tutorials all night and since the xtreme bootmaker wont detect my drive and neither will MTKflash, I need to hex edit it.
