your SATA controller might be for HDD's only if so then Trying to get it to read a DVD ROM drive is pointless, assuming that it dose support DVD ROM drives make a Boot CD with NTFS dos and leave a edited Version of MTKFlash in the main Dir of your hdd (C:\), when in dos type NTFSdos.exe it will mount your HDD (mine is usually D:) type in your Driver letter with a : after it (D:) it will now switch to this Dir run MTKFlash and there you go

P.S. the people talking about Removing all the ide cables are having trouble getting it to detect the SATA channels (because its made for IDE channels) try /SATA

My SATA controller is Silicon Image SIL3112A - which is apparently different from SIL3112, anyone know if it will work? I read on a different tutorial that the NF7S is "compatible", which is what I have. I'd just like some clarification please.

you should be able to Flash the UDMA bios and get it working

QUOTE(Helltick)
Since I'm waiting for my Via PCI..I decided to play with my SIL3112 PCI. It seems this card, purchased only a month ago is way out of date (BIOS and Driver) many new advancments for IDE..perhaps flashing using the modified MTK_NF4 ?

From the readme:

2.    Zip File Contents

IDE BIOS for add-in cards is contained in this zip file.
3.    Summary of Changes in 4.2.70 from 4.2.50
3.2       CD-ROM boot issues

3.2.1      Resolved CD-ROM boot order issue arising from PCI controllers preceding the SiI3112

3.2.2      Resolved CD-ROM boot issue in multi CD-ROM systems
3.3       BIOS reporting issues

3.3.1      Resolved BIOS hang in response to corrupt RAID meta data

3.3.2      Resolved incorrect display of a RAID volume within the device list after a member is dropped

3.3.3      Resolved incorrect volume geometry parameter reporting for a RAID volume with a missing member
3.4       New features

3.4.1      Implemented boot support for native SATA CD-ROM devices

3.4.2      Update BIOS for BIOS EDD – 3 support

3.4.3      Extended RAID volume support for 2TB volumes
4.    Known problems

4.2.1      SiI3112 BIOS will not detect Lite-on DVD

4.2.2      SiI3112 compatibility problems found with EPOX 8KDA3J Rev 2.x motherboard( nVidia nForce3, socket 754 )
5.    Programming the SiI3112 BIOS

5.2.1        Verify the SiI3112 driver version to be SATALink 1.2.0.57. If the driver version precedes either of those noted, download the latest driver from www.siliconimage.com.

a.       Right click on “My Computer” and select Manage

b.       Select Device Manager from the Computer Management tree

c.       Expand the “SCSI and RAID controllers” set of items

d.       Right click on the “Silicon Image SiI3112 SATALink Controller” and select Properties from the pop-up menu

e.       Select the Drivers tab

f.        Find “Driver Version” reported on the tab

5.2.2        Ensure that a hard disk drive or an SV2000 is plugged into one of the SiI3112 SATA ports.

5.2.3        Launch the Silicon Image ATA Controllers application from the Windows Control Panel.

5.2.4        Click the Flash BIOS tab

5.2.5        Click the Browse button and select the b4250.bin file

5.2.6        Click the Program Flash button

Note: The firmware download should take less than five minutes to complete.

Right - the tutorial I saw lists SIL3112 as not working, but its listed as a PCI SATA controller - mine is built in. ANd please forgive my ignorance, but where could I find that UDMA BIOS (thank God I've got a spare BIOS chip since a bad flash a few months ago)?

hi there been following these forums for a while now but im mostly a reader not a poster
im wondering if someone could help me out
ive tried atleast 50+times now to flash my drive without look cant even get the original bin file from the drive
ok this is my specs

asus a8n-sli premium nforce 4 with onboard sil3114 sata
i also have a via vt621 pci sata raid card
ts drive hw04 with firmware ms25 as stated on drive itself
ive edited mtkflash many times before using the method in the tutorial 1stly for the nforce 4 and also for the via chipset pci card
am i doing something wrong cause when ever i type mtkflash r /m orig.bin or other variations of that inc mtkflash r /sata /m orig.bin etc it asks to pick a channel and always shows either via or the nf4sat2 depending which 1 i use  but then which ever i choose it just has a flashing _ but nothing else
ive tried hotswopping and many variations of booting xbox with and without sata attached just always same thing
at 1st i thought it was my mobo sata at fault so i went and bought a pci card with the exact chitset said to work ie via vt6421

here is my drives id no.s etc and how i entered them into mtkflash can someone have a look and tell me if anything ive done is wrong

first off i thank you for reading up good before posting,
try using This and just use every option on every slot (IE plug drive in to slot 1 and try MTKFlash option 1,2,3,4,5,6 plug drive in to Slot 2 and try MTKFlash option 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.), make sure you have RAID and Bootrom disabled in your cosmos and you have unplugged all other drives (Including ide) (excluding what you need to run MTKFlash and Dump the firmware)

Hey Grim...  I have the same type of info with an 16 byte difference on the first 4 ports.  The card has 1 IDE and 2 SATA.  I've edited the mtkflash every which way possible including just using the device ID of 06 11 49 32 and leaving the IO at 00F0 0070 like suggested in other posts.  I've tried two computers and mtkflash always freezes with Port: 9800 text.  Any other ideas?

Danolimitpro have you had any success?

Thanks for any help or info guys.

The only info on the matter that i can find it to just use the First 4Bytes and leave the last 4Bytes as they are, i have noticed there's 2 different kinds of endings

CODE
F0017001

and
CODE
32017001

so i would find both these and anymore that you can find (my hex workshop doesnt line it up right so it gives me a headache trying to find them) and insert your first 4bytes (From "PNP Device ID" line) in before them, on the SATA devices that don't have a amount of 7 in hex difference

Thanks for the help Grim.  So to clarify you recommend going through the different chipsets which have an ending of F001 7001 and 3201 7001 in MTKFlash and edit the PNP IDs to my 0611 4932 ID?  Thanks Grim.

you just have to find 1 of each, if you change all of emm it will reconize all of emm and give you way to many options

Thanks for the quick response and help Grim.  I'll give it a shot later on tonight and report back.  I'm thinking the chipset should work since it's a supported VIA but who knows.  When you mention options what options do you mean.  Usually as soon as I type:

mtkflash r /m orig.bin

It automatically goes to attempt to download the firmware and crashes with the Port: 9800 text.  Thanks Grim.

Dear Mister Grim,

I hope you can answer some of my questions...while trying to backup the original firmware of the Samsung drive...nothing happened at all. I was wondering if my motherbaord supports transfering firmware from the xbox dvd drive..so that the SATA is not limited to hdd's only. My motherbaord is a: MSI K8N Neo Platinum. The stats are:

• An IDE controller on the NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb chipset provides IDE HDD/CD-ROM with PIO,
Bus Master and Ultra DMA133/100/66 operation modes.
- Can connect up to 4 IDE devices

• 4 S-ATA RAID controller and dual channel ATA 133/100/66/33 master mode EIDE controller.

I would also like to know where in the bios i can change RAID to IDE.. however the DVD drive from the Xbox 360 is recognised as fourth master...beside it there is IDE written... I hope you can answer my silly questions...would save a lot of time and trouble (hexing).. if i know my motherboard is supported...

Cheers...

Bas
