« Reply #15 on: May 23, 2006, 03:27:00 PM »

Can someone help me please. I just got the VIA6421 SATA Adaptor today and when I am ready to flash my Toshiba DVD ROM Drive for the original firmware I get Port:b000, master/slave:a0. What does this mean did I do something wrong I also used the hex edit mktflash and still the same error. Any help would be great thanks.

Actually, I didn't hotswap any DVD drive because it is not easy for me to get another working DVD drive.
My dead DVD drive can not be enjected and if I connect it back to xbox360, it will give me RED led flashing.
So the hopswap is not used in my case.

This is how I did :
1. boot up from DOS
2. power on xbox 360 which dead DVD drive connected to SATA on PC
(DVD drive doesn't need to be recognize on BIOS)
3. type command line
4. it found my dead DVD drive and flash back the original firmware
(If it doesn't find DVD drive, try to power off and power on xbox 360 again and again until it found. I almost give up when it doesn't detect the drive in the first place. It won't hurt to give it a few try. Especially, I got my dead DVD drive back to work.)

Thanks for you guy's help biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif

also removing all ide components will help, ie  disconnect hdd / dvd-rom

ive repaired to bad flashs, both done from brand new floppys, think it may be something to do with the speed from which mtkflashs from the disk, i.e. it reads it directly, and doesnt cache in memory??

but got both going using a usb mem stick.

disconnected all ide equipment
sata controller didnt pick up anything on the channels
waited for it to load dos from mem stick
typed command line
at first came up with "no device found" so just retyped the command, had to do it a few times, but it came up with both my sata ports even though the bios / sata chipset didnt pick anything up, and let me flash it back.

also worth a mention,  with any ide equipment attached it would free mtkflash and not display the ports.
hotswapping didnt work for me
drive was powered on constantly (tried all the powering on at command etc, but would freeze everytime for me)
the no device found would come up intermittent, but eventually after a few retypes on the command, it owuld just let me choose a port, and i could recover it from there.

may help others  biggrin.gif

Actually, when I flash my firmware, I don't power on the xbox 360 until I'm at the command prompt (DOS boot disc).

Have you tried it this way?  The MTKFLASH program doesn't actually scan for the drive, it just scans the SATA bus and you choose it.  If it finds the correct device, it will begin to flash the drive, if not, it will just hang there.

I hope that helps.  Or you could try the hotswap trick using someone else's dvd rom drive.  Good luck.

Hey, pure3d2, I know it's been a long time but I'D REALLY appreciate your response. I seem to have bricked my DVD as well -- I used a non-VIA SATA PCI card to flash it -- and something didn't work right so now the DVD drive cannot be ID'ed by the BIOS anymore. Do you suggest getting the via 6421 card can be used to flash it again?

You need a
1. PCI SATA card with VIA 6421
2. xtremebootmaker 0.3.6
3. usb pen drive

Install and open xtremebootmaker 0.3.6 and choose the xtreme firm or ixtreme your choice
Check mark on Use Custom MTK Flash and find you sata card
Click on Detect ID -I/O
Check mark on MS28 Bad Flash Compatibility and Apply Boke's Patch for MS28 Drives (even is you have a ms25)
Choose your target usb flash drive and click on Format and Make Bootable
Finally Click on Prepare Drive

Ok now you have you pendrive ready for flash any toshiba drive or recover any brick drive

Open your pen drive and look the folder Backup inside this folder make one folder and rename to "recover" now open this folder and inside make another folder remane to "samsung" put your original firm inside this folder and remane to orig.bin (make sure is the original firm)

Turn off you PC connect your drive to executioner kit or to your xbox and turn it on them turn the pc on click F8 and select boot from you usb pen drive

When you see Windows 98 ect type this command

samorig recover samsung and hit enter

Now you will see
1: IDE Master
2: IDE Secondary
3: Xtreme

Select 3 and press enter

Because you have a bricked drive the 10 second is not necessary and dont work just select 3 and click enter

You will see Bank0 Bank1 Bank2 Bank3 and you have you drive back with the original bin.

I hape this help you work for me a few times with dricked samsungs
