Dirty Disc Error With Modified Firmware.

okay I just tried again with the exact same media & burner (and burner firmware) as vandale from the post http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=513518 so perhaps I am doing something wrong with the actual ISO creating/patching.

another question: what is the error message received when trying to run a backup on a non-modified xbox360? I'm 99% certain I flashed everything fine but just curious maybe I need to try it again? I can play my retail copies fine.

I have ripped my games both ways, so I'll tell you what I know.

1) If the hacked firmware is working properly, Original games will boot, copies will alwys show up as "Play Game" on the DVD tray icon on the Dashboard (you know where it says "open tray", "close tray", "reading" etc
2) if it says unreadable disc for your burned copies, it is likely a bad firmware write.

I ripped Kameo using the xtreme800 flash and followed the instructions pretty much exactly as outlined in the xtreme readme.  A couple things were forgotten in that readme, but the author expected people would infer how to get to the various sections like:

1) you have to select "Send custom commands" in the listbox underneath your drive selection listbox (the one that defaults to "Advanced Commands"
2) for the Security Sector, enter the 12 Hex string, then click send, change the 01 -> 03, click send, change 03 -> 05, click send, then change 05 -> 07 click send.  then click the save to binary file icon (looks like a sheet of paper with a pencil I think)

3) when you enter the unlocking code (FF 08 01 01), make sure you first change the number of bytes being sent to 4 instead of the default 12.

4) when selecting my DVD drive in isobuster, it actually took a couple of minutes for it to return with information about the drive.  Mine also said CD at the top hierachy tree instead of DVD when looking at an xbox 360 game.  Nevertheless, I right clicked on that and selected Extract From-To.  I entered the exact value in the readme and never encountered the sectors not being read in any of the 3 games I ripped.

I followed the exact instructions with making the iso using the isobuilder stuff and using CloneCD burned them no problem.  (I also ensured that my booktype was set for DVD-ROM for every type I could set it.  I also confirmed burned media was burned with DVD-ROM booktype using the DVDinfoPro check media option.

WxRipper
-----------
This is duck soup.  The isos ripped using this method are exactly the same size as the .000 file from the xtreme method.  All you need to do with the WxRipped iso is apply the SS patch for the specific game (using the now new "Xbox360 SS Merger v1.3" which works perfectly with WxRipped games smile.gif  It also creates a .dvd file with the layerbreak for your ISO and away you go again.

I have the NEC ND-3500 and I used those cheap Memorex DVD+RL 2.4x discs.  So far I've dumped 3 games using the xtrm0800.bin and burned using CloneCD and they've all worked.  I hope that helps.

yes, it is the "cue" file and specifies the layer break to put the SS on the second layer...which is why DL disks are needed.

You could help others by explaining what you had done wrong to help those that might be doing the same thing.

Cheers

awww i did this with NFS MW... and it didn't want to work for me... my xbox says Unrecognised disc / disc scratched ... bla bla bla sad.gif  could it be cause of the wrong ss ? (SS i downloaded off the net (same region though... PAL)

I believe PAL is country specific, so you might be using an Australian Rip with a UK SS.  I'm guessing this is what's causing the errors.

I had all the same issues.  Finally I decided to get my SS files and not use any off the net.  Since then, all works good.

Ok I got mine working too.. all I needed was my OWN SS file. Now PGR3 works great from a verb.

The disc is spinning slower though so its like playing the demos.. whisper quiet! Loading time might be a fraction (from garage to race perhaps 5 secs) longer but I'll take the quietness thank you very much. At first it was spinning pressed-disc-speed but at some point when I was playing PGR3 it slowed down but the streaming etc still works perfectly.

When games start using the HDD for precaching the loading wont even be different either.

Method was wxripper+ssmerger1.3+myownSS+clonecd

And I can skip the lba bad sector hassle with wxripper since I found a lite-on drive that gets through them in an instant.

after 4 coasters I finally got one working.  I believe it was the SS.bin that was wrong.

so, if the disc gets accepted, but the 360 only moans about dirty disc, its the SS right? not a media or bitsetting problem?

Yep. And bitsetting problem gives "unrecognised disc" error instead.

ok, it was my burner!

I just burned with nd-3550a and all games are working now.

If it helps, my old burner was a TS-H552B Burner (all bios tried). This one only works with DVD+RW DL properly with bitsetting.
