Please can anyone let know prior to opening my 360 if the ASUS K8VSE deluxe is compatible ?

I've heard the Nforce4 works if you use the modified MTKFlash that's floating around.

and personally, I can report the VIA 8327 chipset worked fine on my mobo.

Aha ok the specs in the motherboard manual say Via k8t800 and Via vt8237

Ok so I guess this may work then?

What did you do to setup the sata on your PC

OK after 2 hours of this, Im asking for some help.

I was able to dump my firmware to my usbkey. I have an NF4 board (EVGA), but used the regular mtkflash. Now, after patching and what not, I cant dump the files back!! Now I cant even dump the firmware again!

I Guess I have a few questions:

1 - Did my failed writes kill the DVD Drive? It seemed to freeze at the port address, no percentages - Any way to tell?

2 - The light on the xbox is flashing when it freezes, am I not being patient? Does it take longer to write than it does to dump?

no need to hex edit mtkflash the default works fine. Follow these steps:

1. boot computer go into BIOS

2. go to "Advanced" tab and go into "Onboard Devices Configuration"

3. Disable the field that reads "OnChip SATA BOOTROM" and ensure the field "Onboard Promise Controller" is enabled and the "Operating Mode" is set to "OnBoard IDE Operation"

4. make sure your SATA cable IS NOT plugged into the promise ports but the VIA ports instead (upper ports on the board near your IDE ports)

5. boot computer with boot disk and continue as usual. HOWEVER, when it brings up a list of drives, if you have any connected in addition to the 360 drive, make sure you press the number corresponding to the 360 drive. The 360 drive should say something like "VIA..." whereas any other drives will say "IDE..."

If it freezes in XP boot screen, try downloading this update. This worked instantly for me

At the bottom of THIS tutorial there is a section on recovering from a bad flash.

With the Asus K8vse Deluxe you need to plug in the sata cable in to sata 2 or sata IV, (raid 1 or 2) and disable sata bootrom, this should then work with no problems with an unhexedited mtkflash. I spent a week with the 360 open before i figured this out.
