Xbox 360 SS Merger v1.2 - Apply SS on WxRipper Images *Update3*-- Posted by XanTium on May 19 00:08 EST
HellDoc published a program to easily insert the Security Sectors (SS) on raw dumps made with wxRipper(info) - a tool that allows you to easily dump Xbox 360 discs with a normal opened (so you can hot-swap) PC DVD drive. This is a GUI tool that will allow you to easily patch the SS on an Xbox 360 image made with wxRipper to work with the Commodore4Eva Xtreme DVD firmware (the build360.bat doesn't work with wxRipper images).
So you only need the file with the security sectors (SS) of the game (note that the SS can be different not only per game and region, but also per country ... certainly in europe with all the different languages) and the ISO made by wxRipper and then press 'merge'.

*Update* It looks like I was wrong about the nickname of the author, sorry about that, it has been fixed now. In meantime v1.2 has been released.
What's new/fixed:
*(v1.1) It will create the layer break file so you don't need to rename your iso to image.000 and you dont need to use image.dvd
*(v1.2) You can now patch images created with wxRipper (with video partion) and images created the xtreme way (without video partition).
*(v1.2) Selecting xtreme way will insert blank padding like the blank360.iso included with the xtreme package but you don't have to waste 253 mB to keep this blank file! (will also work with xbox iso). Merging the SS xtreme way does require a lot of time and hd space compare to wxRipper images as no data can be added before a file so, when you hit merge, your iso file is renamed to .old, a file with the same name is built with the blank data, SS and game iso, .old file is deleted.
*(v1.2) As video partition can be replaced with blank data, I tought I should give a try to a small feature: Insert ISO
It will allow you to select a file to replace the blank data (on video partition). ISO file must be smaller than security sector offset limit. If  the inserted ISO file is smaller, 00 will be padded until the SS offset. Don't forget that 'ISO insertion' "should" only work with xtreme "style" made ISO.

I'm pretty sure this is false, a lot of people have been doing it with the isobuilder in the firmware package.

I guess it's cool someone made one with a GUI, but still, the other one works fine.

it doesnt...

a wxripper image is going to already have the video partition there or dummied out, depending on if you edit the layout to do so..

the build360 adds the a dummy video partition from the blank.iso

you need to use this tool with your wxripped images or just hex the SS it in manually

How do I extract the ss of the game.Are you going to have to connect the drive to the pc to extract the ss.Only want to have the 360 drive out one time.

Now Im confused on something when obtaining the SS. The instructions from Comodore4Eva goes like these:

"Run DVDinfoPro
Enter the following four custom cdb commands:

AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 03 C0
AD 00 FF 02 FD FF FE 00 08 00 05 C0

Then save hexadecimal display as bin file as SS.bin

Now the guide posted here in the tutorials section

says just to send one command of size 10

which I believe is the command to unlock the drive in order to make the ISO

I guess whoever did the PDF skipped the steps for getting the SS???

I noticed that too, but I think this is oke, because it only modifies the ISO and not add it to the ISO.

I used a similar tool from xboxhacker that merges in the ss.bin with the wxripper iso.  DO NOT USE build360.bat that came with the xtreme package.  This will render the ISO useless, if you want some coasters than go ahead....the basic steps are:

Rip iso with wxripper
Find correct ss.bin
Run app and merge ss.bin into iso (Yes the file size will remain the same)
Burn with clonedvd

Here is the app I have been using:
SS Merger for Xtreme and WXripper ISOs

The app is a little more user friendly as it will create a new .dvd file on the fly for the name of your iso.  So no renaming is needed with this one...

Get a RAW rip from WxRipper, export the XDVDFS iso, then apply the SS?

In the video, it looks like they're using a LG drive connected by a SATA/USB adapter. Can you do the hotswap technique using a Toshiba/Samsung connected directly by SATA? If so, are you supposed to have the drive flashed with the xtrm0800.bin firmware at the time, or some other firmware?

The main reason I'm asking is, whenever I try and rip the commodore4eva way, my whole system locks up and the Samsung drive spins down to a stop. I don't think my sata chipset is fully supported or something.

And yes its ok if filesize is the same... SS are only applied as a patch!

How to use :

1 - Make sure you have .Net Framework 2 installed.

2 - Browse for the iso that has been created via hotswap ( not the way described in the xtreme package )

3 - Browse for the Security Sector file

4 - If its an original xbox iso, click the xbox button, it will set the ss offset and choose xbox layer break file.

5 - Hit Merge and Create Layer break file

6 - Burn the .dvd file that was created with clone dvd.

7 - Give your feedback

8 - **No donation requests of any kind allowed**
