Pioneer 110D Bitsetting Firmware *Update* and Xecuter 360 Kits Update-- Posted by XanTium on May 18 19:50 EST
From team-xecuter.com:

As you may or may not know you require [for the Xbox 360 firmware hack] a Dual Layer Burner that supports bitsetting / book type setting so the burned disc will read in DVD-ROM format. Pioneer 110D drives don't support this but the Dangerous Brothers have released a firmware that adds AUTO-BITSETTING function. I have tested this and it works with 360 burns. As most people I speak to have this model of DL burner I figured i'd make a post about it.

*Update* It seems all Pioneer 109 110 11 support bitsetting for DVD+R DL however they do not for DVD+R. This firmware will be useful if a hack is released that supports +R burns (not just +R DL)

Goto their site and look for:
'Currently RPC1 with Bitsetting firmware based on 1.22 (Synthesized from 8.22)'
Simply double click on the EXE and you can upgrade with ease in Windows.

Also please re-read our last news post. Some people are confused about a few points, especcially how convenient and useful the ODD (Optical Disc Drive) adapter is. I have re-edited a little to make it clearer.

It is great news it's the most popular drive and is untill now unable to burn 360 backups...

The only problem is the current firmware 1.39 states it can't be downgraded and this is based on 1.22 how does one get around that?

Considering the popularity of this drive, and the current interest in burning DL for 360 usage.. this is definitely worthy front page news.

The Pioneer doesnt do bitsetting because bitsetting defeats one of the main problems with the DVD+DL format which is less compatible than the Pioneer+Panasonic+DVD Forum approved DVD-DL format.

And in this case, the +DL format apparently is the only option due to the DVD-DL format not NEEDING to be bitset to be compatible with dvd players but alas the DVD-R2 mediatype is not something the 360 accepts as DVD-ROM.

I always thought Philips was a money grabbing fool for releasing a competing format to the official, most compatible DVD-R but with this whole 360 thing I finally admit its good to have competition  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

And for the record I bought a Pioneer A03 (2x dvd-r) in 2001 for 700 dollars and I LOOOOVE Pioneer.

edit: and also Philips does not have the right to use the DVD-ROM mediacode for their products, thus bitsetting is a bit like miniature piracy.

I know how you feel man, but this is good information, since that's a popular burner, and Pioneer's can be real bastards to play with, despite being excellent burners (probably second only to Plextor).

Personally, all this waiting around for the hitatchi hack is pissing my fucking life off as well, but this news will be useful to a lot of people.

my backups work on my pioneer 110d (although intros are a little jumpy with verbatim dvd+r dl), why would i need this firmware? the first 2 backups i copied worked straight away.

wasnt it stated that the booktype is switched automatically when it gets to the 2nd layer?

my apologies if im wrong

thx

It probably depends on the firmware that you have already.

People have reported working burns with pioneer drives on std firmware revisions already, I think it might just be an issue unique to that drive.
