From what I understand, the VT6421A chipset when using MTKFlash also needs the port I/O’s hexedited as well. With the VT6421L you don't. The VT6421L chipset is an older chipset so many manufacturers are no longer making PCI cards using that chipset. If a product is advertised with the VT6421L chipset, I strongly suggest you receive an e-mail reply confirming you will receive VT6421L. Often times, the picture is out of date and you will receive a PCI with the VT6421A chipset. This has happened to me twice already.

Works perfectly. Just make sure you use the SATA port on the side of the card and not the ones on top.

from the computer standpoint i have read from places that sell the card with a A chipset that the 6421A can support sata 3.0Gb/s where the 6421L can only support sata 150MB/s, not sure about any other differences when flashing.  they just said speed difference and didn't address any of the other options sataII was suppose to incorporate like a working NCQ...again, this is all computer related and really doesn't have any bearing on what is needed to flash an optical drive

VT6421A is working fine, too. Tested with Samsung DVD-Drive and a modified MTKFlash.

The Box says: "Up to 150Mbps dataspeed" (MegaBit), not 3Gb ;D

Someone in this thread reported this card: http://www.dealextre...ils.dx/sku.7598

Did he ever test it and verify that it works?

It has the 6421A chipset so it should work, yes.

Thanks. I couldn't see anywhere on there where it says it has 6421A chipset. I just saw the "VIA".
Unless 6421 is the only chipset VIA makes for SATA. Then does that mean all VIA chipsets work?

In fact, this one doesn't even show a brand name! ha

Anyway, I'm going to order it and report here.

edit:
Looking at the actual pictures, I can see it says "VT6421A" right on the chip. But then there's another chip on there that says "VT6421L"!

I wonder if that means the "external" port on the back of the card is 6421L and the "internal" one is 6421A.
How could would that be to have the option of both on the same card?

Anyway, this should be the card of choice!
Not only an external SATA port, but 4 USB ports as well as an IDE connector!

Got the adapter. It worked fine.

The first port is the internal one, unfortunately.
But still, it works!
