Great news, I think anyone with a sucess story should definately post it.  I've read just about all the tuts around and none of them mention letting the 360 boot with it's sata connected, then connecting pc sata to it.  I think that might help a lot of people out.

THis setup worked for me...

I had a REALLY OLD Chaintech mobo, with an Intel CHipset, it is a very BASIC mobo outdated and old, (doesnt even have USB 2.0) I did not update ANY drivers for ANYTHING. I simply used the VIA 6421L PCI Sata adapter from Tiger (22.00) and a  3 1/2 floppy, (no other drives attached). I COULD not get it to work UNTIL I changed ONE thing. I LET THE 360 BOOT WITH THE SATA CABLE ATTACHED (INFO PROVIDED BY deMONkID via xbhacker.NET, thanks dEmOnkID!!) My cpu was already dos booted and at the command line. I USED THE HEX EDITIED MTKFLASHvia.exe file and THEN I disconnected the 360 sata and attached it to my CPU. violla.....And the only thing that wasnt over 4 years old was the sata card.  When I tried to attach the caBLE w/ out booting it on the 360 it would never work. I also never was prompted to select option 1 or 2, maybye because I had nothing else attached to the mobo. ALSO IMPORTANT NOTE>> I used the inner connector of the VIA6421L card , NOT THE EXTERNAL PORT FACING OUTSIDE THE CPU.

Hope it helps someone.

Thanks to DemonKid for the video.

Hey guys.

Ive been tryin this for a few hours now and i cant get anything to work. Ive installed the VIA 6421 and updated drivers to 520C and got edited mtkflashvia put it on a bootable floppy disc (no .tywotever file tho)

it stalls when i type mtkflash r/m orig.bin. it loads the mtkflash from the disc but then stops.

what am i missing? how do i disable RAID etc on the PCI card?

Just ordered this card off of newegg, but having some problems with it.

Initial install went fine, and the newest drivers installed sucessfully, but once I connected my 360 DVD drive, the card just all of a sudden stopped working. I thought that maybe I had the wrong mtkflash, but when i went back into windows, the card was no longer recognized, as if it wasnt even connected. Tried reinstalling drivers and moving PCI slots, but it still was unrecognized. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Really hope my card isnt fried, the shipping to get it replaced costs half of what the card itself does.

I'm having just a little problem also, first off do you have to disable raid for it to work,if so how do you disable it.Second i cant get the mtkflashvia.exe to work unless I rename it to just mtkflash.exe.Last one for now, when I get to where it says select master or slave do you just hit the number one key ,when I do that I dont think anything is happening. Please help!

mine worked without the raid enabled. however when u boot up the computer make sure the samsung dvd isnt plugged into the sata or else the onboard bios for the card will hang for a while detecting it. (the screen that asks you to press g to continue) i also always use the sata port at the far back (right side
0 of the board.

that pci sata card is out of stock at newegg. i got mine off of www.gearxs.com they have a few and its free shipping.

ok i bought one of these but under a diffrent manufacture

here is the link

http://www.acortech....3...BO PCI CARD

but unfortunatly this card does not work it hangs at the via post raid bios and says scanning for device please wait... after 2 mins its say bios not installed

can anyone help me out with this

it hangs because you have the xbox dvd plugged in at boot, to skip that whole scanning screen just power on without the drive plugged in and plug it in only when your going to do the flash.

Finally, are cards based on VIA VT6421L chipset capable of dumping/flashing firmware and getting our TS 360 drive detected under windows xp with proper fw flashed in?
