Great news, I think anyone with a sucess story should definately post it. I've read just about all the tuts around and none of them mention letting the 360 boot with it's sata connected, then connecting pc sata to it. I think that might help a lot of people out.
THis setup worked for me...
I had a REALLY OLD Chaintech mobo, with an Intel CHipset, it is a very BASIC mobo outdated and old, (doesnt even have USB 2.0) I did not update ANY drivers for ANYTHING. I simply used the VIA 6421L PCI Sata adapter from Tiger (22.00) and a 3 1/2 floppy, (no other drives attached). I COULD not get it to work UNTIL I changed ONE thing. I LET THE 360 BOOT WITH THE SATA CABLE ATTACHED (INFO PROVIDED BY deMONkID via xbhacker.NET, thanks dEmOnkID!!) My cpu was already dos booted and at the command line. I USED THE HEX EDITIED MTKFLASHvia.exe file and THEN I disconnected the 360 sata and attached it to my CPU. violla.....And the only thing that wasnt over 4 years old was the sata card. When I tried to attach the caBLE w/ out booting it on the 360 it would never work. I also never was prompted to select option 1 or 2, maybye because I had nothing else attached to the mobo. ALSO IMPORTANT NOTE>> I used the inner connector of the VIA6421L card , NOT THE EXTERNAL PORT FACING OUTSIDE THE CPU.
Hope it helps someone.
