Pertaining to the LiteOn SOHW series...are people using the stock firmware for burning success or are they updating to anything special?

Case and point, I've got a SOHW-1693S updated with firmware from here :

http://codeguys.rpc1....patched-cf.rar

The readme states:

Code Guys xCxx Quality Patched 3S Firmware

xCxx stands for:
x  Model code
C  OEM code = Code Guys firmware
x  Code Guys version number (0..9, A..Z)
x  Base version number (B for xx0B etc.)

This firmware has been design to improve the quality of burns when using +/-R media at 6x to 16x burn speeds. It uses a WOPC (Walking Optimum Power Control) technique that adjusts the OPC at fixed points during the burn.

Versions marked with "sonyid" have the drive name changed to match that of the Sony DRU-700A and are not based on the Sony VYxx firmwares.  Aside from the difference in the drive name, the "sonyid" versions are identical to the regular versions.  These "sonyid" versions can be useful if you have locked OEM software that will work only if your drive bears the Sony name.

This firmware is not designed to allow you to overclock your media past the manufactures rating. In fact it requires you to use your media at the limits imposed by this firmware. Changing the write speeds of media in this firmware will seriously limit the firmwares capabilities to improve quality. However should you decide to overclock media anyway, this firmware will still perform better than the stock firmware.

This firmware has already been crossflash patched for 1673S users, has a faster LED flash rate when burning and has the following read speed changes:

+R/-R = 16x
ROM/9 = 12x
+/-R9 = 8x

No media burn speeds or strategy changes have been changed.

This firmware doesn't appear to alter the setting of the booktype.  I'm not 100% positive of that, though.

Has anyone else used this firmware version?  If so, what results have you seen?  To be safe, should I just flash the stock/OEM firmware back?

Granted, I know I can check for myself at the expense of a DL blank...I'm just curious if anyone else has gotten results.

PS...I like boobs.

PSS...Apologies if I'm taking a figurative "dump" in someone else's thread.

The CodeGuys firmware is all I use In fact it works better then the Lite-On stock firmware.
Other people have reported good burns with the CodeGuys firmware for the SOHW series as
well that play flawless in the Hitachi drives. Its safe to stay with the Codeguys in my opinion. cool.gif

I have even used Omnipatcher using the recomended tweaks and a force DVD-Rom for +burns!
works great!

1. Intel d865perl mobo (2x onboard SATA)
2. LiteOn DVDRW SOHW-1633S
3. Verbatim DVD+R DL (up to 6x speed) Burned at 2.4x with DVDdecrypter
xp pro sp2
The d865perl board would read/write the TS firmware (using mtkflash from DOS 5 floppy) & extract the disc SS from the 360(using DVDinfopro) but the unlock command (from dvdinfopro) simply resulted in 'black cd' within isobuster.  The LiteOn works w/ wxripper but the drive has to be taken apart.  A paper clip in the emergency eject hole creates an eject command within the drive. The two retail DL DVDs I had to find the magic number were 'The Cat in The Hat' (Mike Myers) & 'Finding Nemo' .  Patched game iso w/ ss.bin using ss merger 1.3 (1.5 is current ver.)
Burned at 2.4x using this guide`http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=514437

Don't forget to set the layer break!  If your properly ripped, patched (ss.bin) & burned game does not work, you have forgotten this setting in DVD decrypter.

mobo BIOS Changes necessary to enable the 360 drive:
boot to bios & Select: advanced, drive configuration,
ATA/IDE Configuration [Legacy]
Legacy IDE Channels [SATA P0/P1, PATA Pri]    (PATA enabled for IDE HD)
PCI IDE Bus Master [Enabled]
Hard Disk Pre-Delay [Disabled]
f10 save and exit

what firmware ver r u using. u r the only other one that i seen using that dvd burner

Dude I have the same mobo / chipset as you yet my pc will not detect my xbox 360 Samsung drive, can u tell me what u altered in the bios to get them machine to see your drive?

Not much really
Disabled the promise controller and used the VIA controller (the motherboard has two seperate raid controllers)  Make sure the VIA is set to IDE and not RAID.

On my flash, I started with my 360 on but with the TS-H943 not yet connected to my SATA controller and booted to DOS via my USB flash drive.  Once I was in DOS I connected the 360 drive to port 1 on the VIA controller and waited for a few seconds.  After running mtkflash it showed up right away in the selection menu.  Read flash with no probs using the stock mtkflash (no need for hex edits).  Once you have your DVD key extracted use the same process to reflash modified bin.

Pioneer 108 + Datawrite DL Discs (10 pack tub) = working 100% (may be due to the pot trick i did)
NEC 3350 + Ridisc/Datawrite/Tuffdisc DL Discs = NOT working at all

my advice get a pioneer if you want to burn the games correctly

i hope somebody finds a way around burning them on an NEC burner as my Pioneer is on its last legs

Sammy 360 Drive
DFI Lanparty UT 250Gb (mobo) (Use SATA Port 3)
Pioneer 111D w/ Latest FW (came stock)
Office Depot DVD+R DL

Works everytime.  My Hitachi 360 reads the Office Depot brand DLs when played as a movie, but since I haven't flashed that one yet, I don't know that it would boot backups.  I have to do the soft reset trick though to get the movies to play in the Hit. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ph34r.gif)

1) Dell 400SC (Intel Server Mobo, Intel SATA) - Couldn't get VIA 6412 PCI SATA to work.
2) Pioneer 111d  FW 1.19
3) Verbatim DL+R @ 2.4x, Ritek @ 2.4x, Memorex (Ritek) @ 2.4x

Burned with DVD Decryptor. Hitachi 46.

Made a lot of coasters on using a Sony 500a and Sony 710a (both rebadged Lite-On) with OEM FW and hacked FW's. Tried everything CloneCD, several types of media, Verbatim etc, book settings, etc. Nothing worked, began to think I didn't do the Hitachi flash correctly. Finally broke down and bought a Pioneer 111d ($39 at NewEgg, free S/H), and now everything work. Sometime I need to use a reset trick on the 360 to get'em to boot, other time they boot from a cold-start.

Those of you pulling your hair out, buy a Pioneer.

1) ABIT KV7 (VT8237 - KT600)
2) NEC 3520aw (latest firmware)
3) Mediarange and Profselect, both 2.4x

Both (cheap) media works on a tweaked Samsung, but they dont work on a hitachi.
