(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) So does this one, the commodore4ever firmware DOESN'T work with the foros patcher, follow the guide and it will work (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I can understand the readme is possibly a little intimidating, but this isn't the right place to complain if you can't even be bothered to follow the guide

cliffy88 - Yeah, it should do, you have to make sure your DVD writer bit sets to DVD-ROM

it was supposed to work with the updated flasher. However, you are correct, I did it manually with a hex editor and it worked fine. The readme is not intimidating at all. I figured since there were some tools out there created to save time that I would use them. Nobody is complaining. I don't know whats up with your attitude but whatever. I thought I asked a pretty legitimate question.

You stated you followed this tutorial and as you posted in this thread it's safe to assume your problem was with THIS tutorial, but you weren't following it, why post in this thread??

And it's not supposed to work with an updated flasher, the firmware need patching in order for it to work with the foros patcher (which IMHO kind of defeats the whole point of it!)

I don't have "Attitude" - all I'm trying to do is help people who maybe aren't so confident to interpret the read me and make life easier for them

sorry if thats what you thought I meant, I wasnt trying to say I had a problem with the tutorial, tutorial was great. I was just wondering if anyone had a similar problem and maybe knew of a fix.

as for patching the firmware read my original post. it says "ppf patched firmware" and "xtreme_proper.bin" etc... I patched the firmware, it doesn't work anyway. Still had to do it manually... end of story.

I am sorry if this has been asked but I do not see a for sure answer anywhere..

My question first is,
Do you need to patch the xtrm0800.bin (for making backups) with your unique dvd key?

If you are not supposed to and DO patch it anyway does this mess anything up?

In the commadore4eva release you are never told to patch this file with unique dvd key.  The xtreme.BIN file is talked about patching but not the xtrm0800.bin file.

In furos360 proper release to work with Key Patcher.. it states
"When you need raw dumps and security sectors from games it will be
needed to flash the Xtrm0800.bin on the DVD-Drive, to do this just repeat
step 5 but with the Xtrm0800.bin firmware file."

Step 5 is about patching with dvd key.. so follow this or not?

Anyone know for SURE ... such as someone state that has this working either way please state what you did.

Thank you

From what I read and understood only The Xtreme.bin FW needs to be patched with your Drive Key.

You don't need to patch the xtrm0800 with anything. Just use it to flash your drive so you can make raw dumps of the game. I prefer using wxripper though, don't have to worry about flashing back and forth.

To the guy who made the tutorial on the this tread.

I tried using the supplied tutorial that came with the hack and I thought I butched my drive because it wouldn't eject or anything. I couldn't get it to flash the original firmware because it didn't get recognized anymore. So I read your tutorial and noticed you said unplug all IDE. I did that and turned the power on at the C:\ prompt and low and behold I could flash it with the original firmware to get it back to its original state. I then used your tutorial to do the hack. It worked. Kudos to you my friend. I have a question though.

Before I unplugged the IDE cables and tried to flash it would say no drives detected. Why would unpluggin the IDE cables make it visible to mtkflash so it could flash? I like to know how things work, not just doing the hack and not learning why it does what it does.

Thanks
