i still wish the firmware hack woulda never been found.........Yes it will be nice for backups but piracy is gonna be all this does...it will prolly slow down the research for getting by MS security....Personally i would love to love linux on the 360 along with most ppl on here and well it just kinda sucks that mods such as the DVD firmware hack are slowing mods that are moral down....o well

Yes yes.. With all due respect... Get over it all ready. Everyone would love their X360 to open up and make you your favorite meal while recording your favorite cartoon while running linux and vista at the same... It's not out now. For gods sake you may just have to wait! Some people here seem to think they were promised a linux hack for the 360 or any hack for the 360. Who the hell tells you this? This hack is it now. Sitting around "wishing" this was gone or "wishing" linux is around is just a huge waste of time. Contribute if you can to get linux on the 360 if thats what you want.

THIS IS WHAT HACKING THE X360 IS ABOUT!! IF you want a linux machine just build one. Want a media center.. Build one, Want mame.. install it on your PC. Hacking the 360 is SIMPLY about hacking. No matter if it's linux, or mame or XBMC or making the firmware play DVD+R DL or anything. THis is part of hacking. Information.

Guys and gays working on linux and other things didn't just STOP working towards that goal because of this. so what the hell are you even talking about here?

Some want the big prize without even joining the team or playing the game.

Now fuck... This is nice. I for one will be trying this out in the morning. Anyone find a nice link to order the SST chip in the US? Too late for me here to check my local places.

Ohh BTW nice work guys.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

gotta agree.  it has gotten old and quite retarded to see in every thread, ESPECIALLY those posted by mods including news stories, that someone has to come in and start bitching or preaching about piracy.

and in case they have missed it in about every thread that is alluded to above, the mods say to leave the piracy discussion out of it!

not that what i said was on topic...but...

this is nice.  when i read about the possible mod i had wondered if something like that was possible when it finally did get released.  and although i can see a modchip group releasing a switchable bank chip, that still wouldnt ease the soldering of this mod to the drive.  not that the first mods for xbox were simple to solder either.  just thinking that although a switchable chip would ease one of concerns of users (constantly flashing and reflashing the chip), it would create the new concern of mounting the chip.

mouser doesnt stock them, but can get them.

It has me wondering if I can flash this firmware file onto a modchip with that particular flash chip (evox, raincoat, etc) and then desolder it and replace the chip on the 360's dvd drive... I know that isn't the best solution, as using a SATA port with mtkflash is WAY easier, but still, makes me wonder  rolleyes.gif

Talking about morals when you use a pirated MS bios to play halo mods?   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/jester.gif)  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)

Sounds great but I think there is a small error in the tut.

I have just had a look at the Datasheet for the chip and "Chip enable" is pin 22 not pin 15 (pin 22 is 90' clockwise from pin 15) and the pull ups need to come from VCC which is pin 32, pins 4&5 are suggested but are in fact address lines.

I might be wrong but check out the datasheet at http://pdf1.alldatas...ST/39SF020.html

This is nice, Thanks cavernimports, but I have a form question what is the difference between the chip in the tutorial-- SST39SF020A and the SST39SF010A that the samsung sd-605 has. I was just wondering since I have a broken one (laser burnout) that has this chip.

Cool. This was said to be possible, now it is proven... beerchug.gif

<speculation>My main thing though, is if MS$ attacks this, it will probably be through the dashboard (which is always running at some level, like a true OS), so it won't matter if you are connected to Live or not, as long as you have the new Dash you will get banned or receive errors, etc. So this might not have a real practical use in the end...</end speculation>

Interesting thought and good point, quite possible - doh.

OK I see what he has done. He has numbered the pins differently to the manufacturer so make sure you go of his numbering system and not the correct one.

It is a great idea right enough but if the tut was tweaked to matched the datasheet it would avoid confussion.

What this ALSO needs to do is when enabled - completely DISABLE the network port, then you KNOW you are safe..
