There is a guy in Thailand that builds them and will ship anywhere in the world for less than what it would cost you to make a single board.
Shipping can be kinda expensive, so make sure you purchase all the adapters you think you might need in the future.

Also HELLTICK, I don't think the flash chip on the DVD drive is a LPC chip. You will need a different programmer. See info above.

sweet. someone just needs to patch it so it doesnt need the 2 dvdroms connected and make a nice ui for it.

the fact that the TS drive couldn be read/flashed without desoldering the chip was a big hurdle.

Not sure how much my question relates, but I was wondering if learning how to hack the xbox 1 dvd drive has an advantages? The reason i ask this is because 1) i dont have a 360 as of yet. 2) i would be a bit apprehensive to just flash away on a new dvd drive that I'm not a 100% sure what I am doing.

So if anyone who knows anything about hacking the 360 or has at least put in some attempts whats your opinion on experimenting with the first xbox initially?

In my opinion it's fairly useless on the XBOX 1 as the only thing extra that you can do with it is play backup's on LIVE. Since that is the only reason the hack on the 1st xbox would be usefull, I doubt that you will get any help from anybody to do it. If you just softmod/TSOP flash/hotswap/chip your xbox then you can do everything that the FW hack does, besides play backup's online.

well i understand it's pretty much useless in the sense doing more to the system, however, i would think that it would aid as a step to the next level. If i remember correctly TS and others did hack the first xbox to learn what was going on, and then applyed that knowledge to the 360. I'm sure looking into the challege and response calls on the original xbox would be helpful. In my case it will not add any new features to my machine.

doing a hack for a xbox 1 drive like for example the samsung drive would be a great foundation of knowledge to hack the 360 samsung drive.

for one the use the same core processor the 8032(8051,8052 compatible) so you would be learning the same instruction set.

the xbox 1 samsung firmware is 128kb but the 8032 is limited to 64kb program space. they get around this limitation by using bank switching. so when disasming the firmware split into 2x64kb banks. there is always common code at the begining of each bank as well so the begining of each bank will be identical.

the xbox 360 samsung firmware is 256kb or 4x64kb banks.

so many of the skills needed to develop a firmware hack for the xbox 1 samsung would apply directly to the 360 samsung drive.

you could also use the same tools. disassmblers, assemblers, and/or simulators.

which is an integrate developer enviroment that supports ASEM-51 and Emulator 8051. so you can compiled and simulate your firmware very quickly.

i don't know where i was going with this but all the tools will help you with a xbox 1 firmware as well a 360 firmware hack.

addition: i forgot to mention i don't think a xbox 1 firmware hack would be useless. there are other uses for it besides playing copies on live if you think about it.

I forgot to mention as well that i have posted a method of read/writing the firmware of a TS-H943A with just a computer with a sata controller, a sata harddrive(your 360 drive works) and the dvd drive itself. it requires booting into dos and hot swaping some sata cables then using a mtkflash 1.83c. It is a varition of a something similar by germania and it tacked onto his thread. if you want info on it go over to xboxhacker

with it you can backup and overwrite your firmware on your Toshiba Samsung drive no problem. it doesn't require you desolder the flash ethier. which is really difficult because it is encased in epoxy.

aw crap! This means hours of reading and hacking away i guess. I have been fairly lazy to say the least in trying to understand all this information, because there is a ton of it, not to mention its hard to find time in the day to do all this between work and other household things. I have a software background and write code for a living, but this hardware stuff is a whole new world. I know how to install it and all of that, but flashing and modding, thats something i will have to pick up on the fly.

And as far as assembler goes, i'm sure i can learn to follow, but since I'm used to doing OO programming it just might take a bit longer.

I have yet to check the version of my dvd xbox 1 drive, but I know its a phillips - are these applications and flashers useful to a philips drive? I know everyone talks about the sammys, LG, and hitachis.

I wanted to edit my post above, but I have one other question, has anyone outside of the few people involved with the FW hack been able to reproduce the same success? I'm not looking for BS answers, I'm just interested if there are people who have been able to peice together the crib notes of how to do this. Between all the threads on the topic and just gibberish inbetween the important information there is a lot of stuff out there. It would just be nice to see that some others had similiar success as well.

so far this hack only allows the running of unsigned games. originally the firmware hack could only be programmed for one game eg. PGR3. but this has been fixed now i think?

I hear that they the current version of the hack will play any xbox 360 game or xbox 1 game(provided it supported) of course these discs have the needed information inserted into the iso.

One thing I'm curious on also. I just got FFXI last night and installed it. It installs the entire game to your HD from the disc. I know that changing the executable file will void the signature, but is there a way to possibly use the DVD hack+FFXI to somehow load something onto the 360? It spent an hour installing, so it should be lots of files. Just throwing that out there and maybe somebody will know if that could work.
