Well i think i learned this information is over the top of my head. I have been looking into all the details for some bit of time now trying to piece everything together, but assembler and hex values are just not my cup of tea. Not to mention trying to go at it by myself. I have a CS degree but trying to learn ATA and assembler is just not in my timeframe with work. It's definately amazing how people RE things.

I just have this feeling that the hack will never be release by anyone and the only way you can get it is if you figure it out yourself. I'm not saying thats a bad thing just what i think - so i was thinking of learning how on my own.

All teamxecuter is working on is a hardware adapter, no actual software.

There's an article on the team xecuter website which says that some groups are working on this and we can expect to see the flashing software around the same time as their SATA->USB adapter: Team Xecuter

Don't confuse their software app with a patched FW. They only plan to release the adapter and a reading/writing/flashing program, no patched FW.

What you lot don't get is that there's an ability to save your FW to PC and do the necessary editing and Write the firmware using the tools.

It'll take a little longer to get this working but at least be thankfull for having the ability to flash the firmware in the future.

You can already dump and flash to your drive, whether it's detected in Winsuck or not, but how exactly are you planning on testing the firmware that you modify without a chip programmer or romulator? just flash it to the drive? have fun brickin your box...

actually the Toshiba-Samsung 360 drive can be flashed over even if the flash is completely currupted. i have done this with a blank flash and a badly patched flash. i could restore my drive each time.

The Hitachi is another story you could be stuck with that one i think. thought there is a recovery mode that you might not have to desolder the chip to fix it. you can currupt it to a point where only desoldering the chip and reflashing works

Bluecop have you you successfully patched the TS FW?

Did you order a new drive or use the original and which firmware did you flash?

woah, bluecop, I thought you said in another thread that a bad flash on the toshiba bricked it? did you find another process, or can mtkflash still do it?

EDIT: nvm, I found it, great trick with the resistor-switch swap. Also, what prog do you use to dissassemble the firmware dump? I tried dis8051, but have no idea how to split the banks and such. much appreciated

What I would like to know is if someone releases a hacked firmware will it have their aes key in it. if so if you use that firmware and input your own key in the kdx keydrive extractor patcher program and then click save will it replace the person who released the hacked firmwares key with your own key and then just need to be flashed?

should be the case, but at this point, it looks like it could be up in the air as to whether an actual firmware will be relased or just a patch. Who knows, they might release both. Either way, we already got all we need, just waitin for the code.
