nah some guy on a dutch forum brought his 360 to him. He had to leave it there since the guy told him windows and linux wasn't recognizing the dvd drive and he had to desolder the chip. This was past friday. He is now awaiting till he gets it back.

I'm from Bilzen and I had 2 friends that went there with their Xbox a few years ago.
Don't think he did the hack himself (if you are that smart, you would have a real job), likely he got it from someone on irc.

The guy also claims that it will play raw dumps without further patching.

I think based on these 2 things we can call this bullshit.

how exactly does he authenticate the disc without the Security Sector. If he is smart enough to do that(which i don't think is possible) then he should be smart enough to get a drive recognized by windows. There are methods to have the hitachi drive recognized posted on xboxhacker forums.

It just all doesn't add up. I am calling Bull Shit on this guy.

So you're the guy from the site ? Then maybe you can explain how you get a game ISO playing without patching it in any way ? E.g., without inserting the security sector ?

Anyway, this thread was about a drive flasher and I don't know if anybody saw it already, but SeventhSon released a software flasher and it's been confirmed to work: http://www.kev.nu/36...lashsec_win.zip See also: http://www.kev.nu/360/dvdshort.html#7 And most important read this:
QUOTE

Warning: This app is an interim solution intended *only* for hackers who know what they are doing. It is very easy to kill your drive with this program. I wrote it and I still knackered my drive to the point where I needed to physically remove the flash and reprogram it using a hardware programmer. If you fail to update the firmware checksum before you power down the drive, you *will* break your drive. If you overwrite any of the upload and execution command handlers with broken code, you *will* break your drive. If you overwrite your flash entry point code, you *will* break your drive. If you overwrite the sector containing your AES key without backing up your key first, you *will* break your drive and will not be able to rapair it for a very long time (possibly never). If you do not understand *everything* that I just said, then this app isn't for you. Wait for a safer more user friendly one (I'm working on a proper flasher, I know others are too, it shouldn't be too long).

Respect to Seventhson for again a piece of great code.

If this goes on the front page, then 1001 dumb fucking kids will download it within the hour and then come on here complaining about how they screwed their drives up. It's not a good idea.

Agreed, I guess that's the reason that it's not on the front page smile.gif This is CURRENTLY not a tool for everybody and if everybody starts downloading it, then it WILL result in some broken drives smile.gif

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I first read it. I too have done lots of modding on XBOX 1, but I just got my 360 and I'm not going to attempt the FW hack until others have tried it also.

So I read there r 4 types of hitachi's now?  And it would be possible with only one type unsure.gif
What is now exactly gonna be possible cause it seems a clean flasher won't take so long anymore. Dunno bout the fw.. But will it be for all Hitachi's? And what about Samsungs?

Software flashing is and will be risky business. There's no such thing as a 'save' flasher. Yes the drives have a recovery mode but even the recovery mode can be corrupted. The software flasher on kev.nu works on 8163B / 8050L / 8164B / 3120L (046/047) drives. How do I know? I tested the flasher. But anyone who does not know what he is doing WILL end up with a broken drive.
