Been an avid follower of the xbox hacker scene , i love the collective inteligence of the people out there .i bought my orginal xbox just to hack it , i would never waste a days wage on a game , nobody has lost any money from me because i would have never spent it in the first place.Infact MS have gained because i would have never of bought the xbox unless i could hack it, Me been an owner and telling all my friends about it got MS genuine sales by people who bought retail games.Sony seemed to accept this model of free market and didnt worry too much about protection. But MS lives a costant life of embaresment and in thier new dawn of trust worthy computing i do not think they will let this slide which brings me to a few questions about the long term feasability of this hack.

did anyone read the contract with thier xbox360 ?
Could M$ do some type of wmi query against the DVD seeing a modified firmware , they have your credit card detials for live , your ip and a contract tighter than a ducks arse.
Also what will happen if they play a game in the wrong region will this flag up ?
Also there is the worisome fact that everywhere you look people are cleary stating this is only good for piracy which would leave us with no defence what so ever , which would make it very easy for M$ to make examples of people and shutdown sites

1. did anyone read the contract with thier xbox360 ?

No i was too anxious to try out my 360 rather than read the documentation (though when i get some spare time ill probably pick through it)

2. Could M$ do some type of wmi query against the DVD seeing a modified firmware , they have your credit card detials for live , your ip and a contract tighter than a ducks arse.

May be possible would be TOUGH to contact and procecute that many people though if there is an 'easy to use' tool available to do it

3. Also what will happen if they play a game in the wrong region will this flag up ?

From what i understand this firmware hack does NOT circumvent region protection there is alot more involved to that (even if it did i dont think it would raise a flag though, i have heard rumors that certain games are region free)

4. Also there is the worisome fact that everywhere you look people are cleary stating this is only good for piracy which would leave us with no defence what so ever , which would make it very easy for M$ to make examples of people and shutdown sites

Yes it seems to me it would mostly only be good for piracy or legal 'backups' of your own games (unless people can find exploits in unsigned game files for other uses...linux would be sweet). Im sure if someone made it apparent enough then yes MS would thoroughly enjoy making examples of certain people or sites. As for team xecuters possible 'ON/OFF' switch which might be able to support multiple firmwares, i feel they would have a much harder time trying to prosucute them since they would ship the pcb blank (id imagine at least) and though the functionaly of the PCB w/ two blank flashrom's COULD be used for using orginal and hacked firmware it also COULD be used for a list of other things

(by the way all of the info above is all personal opinion, just putting my two cents in correct me if im wrong anywhere up there)

I was thinking about the possibility of a game exploit. There had to have been a reason (besides the demos on the disk) that they banned the kiosk disk. With this firmware hack, we can get the disk back up, and continue the work on hacking.

Lets get this clear, once again.
If you want to admit to being a pirate then do it BUT DO NOT do it via this forum.
Don't ask why your post disappeared.
Posting is already as stated before being removed to the pirate promoters who trot out their proud to be pirate crap here.
Do it somewhere else if you feel the urge to confess.

For all the nay-sayers just sit back in your lazy boys and let the men do their work. If something comes of it.. so be it. Let xecuter do their business in providing the scene with excellent quality products. And no im not an xecuter fanboy I was once an xodus supporter alone but that got me no where. Lets keep the 360 where it is, a system that at the moment kicks any video game systems ass (aside from my beloved 8-bit grey box wink.gif ) Now thank you to all the guys out there that are making this possible. No need to ruin anyones hopes by involving court and law enforcement or even mentioning them for that matter.. you honestly think xecuter would be the company they are today if they were strictly homebrew.. how many of you actually use your control panels on linux. Ding less than .1% i can say. Anyways.. keep up the good work xecuter. This was nice news to awake to.

My 3 cents.

Why does there have to be a reason? It was easy for MS$ to block the Kiosk disc. It was something that end-users were not supposed to have, so they just blocked it. If I were MS$ I wouldn't want stupid news stories popping up everywhere about lame homebrew flash games...

I don't want to be the pessimist here, but there will never be a "soft-mod" via a game exploit. I suggest that people look at the security in-depth, and look at how the original Xbox exploits were found. I am so sick and tired of hearing "but its MS$, there has to be a hack". That is the lamest reason ever... REMEMBER, MS$ just pulled in Xbox devs to help make Vista more secure wink.gif

I honestly believe the hardware will have to be attacked first, before we can ever learn enough to attempt any sort of softmod. X-Ecuter is taking us one step in that direction, even if right now all it allows us to do is run backups...

Chancer my statement "i never waste a days wage on games" was by no way a confession to piracy.
Hence im a little upset that my post was removed.
i hack many things ,not just consoles and i would never go to all that effort just to play games, not only am i rubbish at them, i dont find they have changed much in the last ten years and my fingers dont react like they use to :-) .that was my point.
tinkering is a hobby ,which means i do it for fun not profit

 feel the luv gripe over

i feel the same way about hacking for the fun of it, but i really like gaming so i always support the good games i like by buying them,

looks like chancer just popped his top bcuz hes tired of all the kid wannabe gangsta pirates..
