Xecuter Xbox360 DVD Firmware Progress: Read, Write Firmware from PC-- Posted by XanTium on March 25 10:56 EST
Team Xecuter(info) comes with a new update of their progress on the Xbox 360 DVD Firmware Hack (also read: follow-up, Xecuter update1, Robinsod interview, MS' response). They managed to not only read (like SeventhSon did - more info), but also write the DVD firmware from a PC!

We have made some progress when connecting the Xbox360 DVD ROM to a PC - reading the firmware and then writing back to it. Our goal is to make this plug and play - as simple as possible that anyone could do it with no fuss - and without any great expense.

We have a couple of products lined up to make life incredibly simple for the DVD drive modder - one of which will (in our opinion) be the "tool of choice" in the near future.

Thanks for giving MS a reason to bann from Xbox Live. Plus I am sure MS will kill this mod in no time. This is a waste of time....

Whats the stuff that they are selling? SATA Power cable to Normal Power Cable? Would we really need any of those tools if we already got SATA and all that stuff in our PC?

This is far from a waste of time. This is MAJOR progress. If you want to use your xbox for playing on Live, then plain and simple, dont try this hack. It will be for others like us who would purchase another box just to have this hack which I think I will when I can find another one rather easly.

i am wondering if we could use the power plug from 360 and just connect pc sata cable to the drive. kinda like what had to be done to hotswap hhd to pc on xbox1.

afaik its a custom powercable, not sata
currently the only way of connecting it to a pc is to leave the power connected to the 360 and have the drive draw power from that while the sata is connected to the pc.
this means you run the risk of damaging your hardware if everythings not properly grounded.

this little thing makes it a bit userfriendly as it allows you to connect the drives power to a pc
