Xbox 360 Game Disc Authentication

*************************************
       Xbox 360 Game Disc Authentication
     *************************************

In order for an xbox 360 game disc to be detected by the xbox 360 as a 'dvdxbox360' disc

it must pass a challenge/ response session between the game disk and the dvd rom drives

firmware.

(1) The xbox 360 (kernal) retrieves the first 0x661 bytes of the security sector (SS) from

the game disk using the ReadDVDStructure Command.

(2) This is then decrypted and the xbox 360 has a set of Challenges and Responses (CRs).

(3) The xbox 360 Challenges are issued to the dvd rom drive in the form of a Challenge ID

(CID) and 4 bytes of Challenge Data (CD).

(4) The xbox 360 sends a Challenge ID (CID) + challenge to the dvd rom drive then the dvd

rom drive firmware looks up the challenge and the response from the table by using the

Challenge ID (CID).

(5) The dvd rom drive responds to the xbox 360 and the drives Response is compared with the

decrypted table.

(5) There are 6 Challange/Response (CR)s exchanged during authentication of a game disc out

of a total of 9.

(6) If all checks pass the drive unlocks and the game boots.  The xbox 360 swaps to the

game partition after the authentication has succeeded.

I sure do, but the lack of an XBOX360 and the required technical skills are keeping me from making any progress with the fine information you have provided tongue.gif

Amazing how bad attitudes on here are at times. I tried to gather together info from the xbox hacker forums and organize it into an understandable fassion in hopes of stimulating a team work enviroment and just get shot down for trying... it is clear they will never call this team xbox scene. The hackers accomplished what they did through working as a team, sharing info and insights but that will never happen here, every attempt by myself and others here has turned into a arguing match which contained insulting remarks. Relax I am convinced do not try to bring cooperation or stimulate working together or sharing of info here beacuse it will not work here. The vast majority of the time I have ever posted on xbxo scene forums was in the Newbie Forums trying to help others solve problems with their xboxs. If I had seen interest it was my intention to continue posting other topics comprised of info from xbox kacker but that would be useless.

You have good intentions, but as I said in your other post, the hack has been done. And regardless of what anyone thinks or likes about it, it will eventually be released, for good or for bad. Xecuter seemed to make it pretty clear that they're working hard on doing something about this. And if they don't, there are many massive pirate rings that will. It's too much money loss for them not to. Let's hope it doesn't kill the 360.

do you guys think it'd be safe to advertise the xbox360 mod on public websites like craigslist, or should i mod xboxs like i'm dealing drugs and be very cautious about law enforcement?

Depends on the distribution format and the law in your country of residence I suspect.

If a PC utility, dumps the DVD drive’s flash, verifies it via a checksum, patches it, and re-flashes, the distribution wouldn't contain any copyright code.

If you’re providing a modification service, the areas is even greyer.  XBOX1 mod-shops can claim to be a ‘repair’ or update services, as typically they only flash with Cromwell (i.e. they repair your console to be able to run Linux) – which doesn’t allow piracy (off the bat).

The current X360 hack doesn't have any legitimate purpose yet!

This thread brings me to think, at some point, the sacred key MS uses to sign their dvd's is transferred between the DVD drive and the 360. Is there anyway to capture it?

No. The dvd's arent signed, the executables are.

Except for the fact that it would allow one to modify unsigned files on the disk to take advantage of an exploit, opening the doors for a soft mod to allow homebrew, but I guess that isn't significant enough to mention...
