Non Media Check 360 Disc Discovered

Well, I tried everything with the Full Auto Demo as well.  Somewhere, somehow, the media flag(s) MUST BE FOUND!!!!  I honestly believe we can't go forward unless we find them.

The only alternative is a mod chip which bypasses the media flags somehow.

Someone should figure out to what external HD's are referred to in system, as in gamedb.ini shows the dvd game disc is referred as game:\

VideoPath=game:\videos\xxxxxxxx.wmv

This way one could have references to external usb HD's called from the kiosk disk and played from the big HD. Unless it's totally locked.

Or maybe it'd be better to start from trying to figure out the drive name for the x360's 20gb drive. There's a post somewhere on the forums showing the contents of the HDD, maybe someone should try to address those with their paths and file names. It should be something logical, like game:\, maybe hdd:\ or harddrive:\

VideoPath=hdd:\videos\somethingdownloadedfromlive.wmv

when the kiosk where first appearing did anyone else notice that the actual dash never came up when the guide button was pressed while playing the disc?

Yup, I noticed that. There had to be something different with the system or something.

Am I misunderstanding or does this mean that every .xex file on the kiosk DVD has their media flags set to "all" or "burned media and pressed media"?

If that is the case I'd have to say that this was def not a mistake.

Nooby question, but I have always wondered this:

What, exactly, is the difference between a pressed disk and a burned disk? What distinguishes the two?

From what I understand there is data on every type of DVD that tells the drive what kind it is. The Drive can detect that the DVD is a DVD-R and so on.

So there's no way to get hold of the disks that publishers print their games onto?

sure....just steal a pressing machine and discs out of their factory. you don't actually think you can just pop one of those in a normal dvd burner do you?

Ok I managed to get a WMVHD file to play but with a few problems...maybe you guys can help.

- I extracted the iso using Qwix.
- Then I deleted all of the items of the demo folder and all of the videos in the video folder.

I then tried several times, unsuccesfully, to edit the gamedb.ini file in the en-en folder like the previous poster had done burnt the disc and could not get the video to show up in the menu.  So then I tried to change the gamedb.ini file in all of the folders that had one (all of the kiosk folders as well as the language folders) and that still did not do the trick.

- So next I just renamed the wmvhd file that I was trying to play to "kameo.wmv" and selected the Kameo game movie demo in the menu to play.
-  Made a new iso with qwix and burned onto a cd-r with nero

This did the trick and the video played. The only problem is that the video played very choppy and stopped after about 10 seconds.  I think this might have been a result of the fact that I burnt the image on a cd-r and not a dvd-r and/or the file size was too small (the whole disc was only 100 megs the movie was only 60)

I will try again tomorrow...maybe the previous poster can let me know which gamedb file he edited and if his movie played "chopply"  thanks

Second, I'm pretty sure pressed discs are different than burned ones in their make-up.

Here's how a pressed CD is made: first, a "glassmaster" is made from the master CDR, which is then used to make a negative plate. This plate is then used to make stampers which stamp all the zeros and ones into tiny pits on the CD surface ( sort of like how they make vinyl records). The data is PERMANENT. Then, a protective coating is put over the CD surface to protect it from scratches and what have you. These pressed CDs should last a hundred years if taken care of.

A burned CD uses dyes on the CD surface to hold the data from the laser in place. If the dyes deteriorate, the data will be lost and the disc will go bad. The cheap CDRs especially have this problem. These CDs will not last as long as pressed CDs, and also have no protective coating over the surface.

Dont see why everyone wants wmvhd sooo bad.

If u really want it that bad get windows MCE and then u can stream wmvhd and more importantly .ts streams in 720p/1080i.

There arent that much wmvhd material out there but there´s tons of mpeg2 material in .ts "in the usual places".

Really see no point in getting hidef material going from a DVD since noone is probably ever going to be using it in this way(streaming is the only way to go).

However playback from an external HD could be somewhat useful I guess but still think MCE (or similar) is the best way.

But then again I figure most people are only playing around with this trying to discover something revolutionary and have no intent on using this "playbackmethod" for real

well...for me I do not have wmce and I do not have a computer hooked up to either one of my two HDTV's so I would love to have the ability to view downloaded hd content via my xbox without having to invest in another computer...ideally, MS will allow xp users to stream video, which I think they will do eventually

Will MCE play .ts files that I download from the "usual places"?  I was under the impression (not sure exactly why) that it would only play stuff that you recorded yourself.  If so i'm just gonna throw MCE on a separate partition and do that since i've been archiving a ton of .TS files for the day I could actually view them on my TV.  And if that day arrived on Nov. 22nd and I wasn't aware of it, then i'm gonna feel stupid.  tongue.gif

Someone should try running these files while network cable is unplugged from live.

processdump.xex           -------------process dumper?
mfgbootlauncher.xex
testxex.xex
ximedic.xex                   -------------x-interface medic?

Put each one into a demo directory and rename them or change the gamedb.ini file. They might need the coresponding xp1 to run. Who knows. Most curious. I would but I dont have 360 or the disc, though interesting how much progress has been made.

Yes it will play .ts files if they dont show up rename them to mpeg.
Best thing would be if we could get a smaller "version" of MCE though, like an extendet media connect (with movie support) but thats for later I guess...

why do people assume the 360s ident is in the same place as the original

why do people talk about hackin it like its the same machine

its not...

its very different...

all you lot who jumped on board with your 1.1s and so forth, its not the same bloody machine... your nonsense aint gonna help....

i'd willing put my rep out that you can beat the protection with this disc in its current state; and if its modded, you still aint running homebrew (which is what XS is about)

all you kiddies after BACKUPS get on the right forum, go look at our asian friends websites, they have lots to talk about...

as for homebrew, that a lot harder than running some shitty silver tongue.gif
