I would guess that the dashboard structure is there because the demo disc hasa copy of the dashboard on it

Arghhh... the discussion about the bootable demo discs has been going on for weeks.  Nothing new here.  Somebody on the afterdawn forums claims to have gotten backups to work on the Xbox Official Magazine UK xbox/xbox 360 demo disc.  Only about 1 or 2 people have tried this and said his method didn't work.  The person who claims the backups to be working is sending a disc to somebody else via mail.  We're awaiting a response (if any).

Probably not going to work since the added xex will most likely fail the media check.  Possible room for other exploits though.

edit: wmv-hd sounds promising though!

I'm gonna try if i can get anything to work with this disc.

I don't see the big point in all this at first when I read it I jumped for joy but the more I think about it this was done on purpose so everyone had the same disc with out issues and "PI" this leet group just happened to get there hands on a copy of the dsic. It isn't that hard I could of gotten a copy of the disc myself and prob burned it whoopy... I hope somthing does come out of this though but I don't want to mod or hack my box.

Xbox live is such a crucial part of the 360 why bother hacking  it when you lose such a valueable feature... If not buy another 360 to hack your heart away with.

but please, someone answer my question, how does this help the homebrew scene, i get it, that the xex files are not set to xbox360 dvd media check, but how does this help in developing homebrew software? could we use that executable to launch other homebrew apps? or what?

and does anyone else think that someone could use this to launch homebrew, using the xex that's already there, since the datafiles are not signed, we put in our own files that aren't signed, and have the xex launch them, kinda like launching the wmv  videos?  or am i totally wrong?

Even some nice video's from Gears Of Ware are listed in the movies directory, and some xbox 1 games. And even a movie that shows the wmv hd logo called t2.wmv

I'm gonna try to change the disc within an hour to see if i can get demos running from the oxm disc. I don't think it will be that simple, but you can give it always a try.

Listen, it's fairly simple.  The game ISOs aren't very useful because they have a media check.  So, even if we were to burn the ISO to a DVD-R, it wouldn't run.  However, in this case, the media flag is set to accept recorable media (DVD+/-R).  That means we can alter the ISO and burn a new one.  The XEXs wouldn't be altered so their signatures would still be valid.  However, if the XEX files use any of the other data files, there is a possibility to exploit something ..... similar to how the font exploit worked.  I have no idea what the chances are, but we're all curious ............. aren't we ?
