Non Media Check 360 Disc Discovered

Some further notes:

- The suffix in demo name being executed can be .exe too. In fact the name can be anything you can think of - as long as it's the same signed executable.

- game: references in .ini files can be changed to logical drive name d: (dvd-drive), and they still work.

so then, Whenever you connect a USB device, like a thumb drive, does the 360 assign it a drive letter (i.e. E:, F:, G:, etc...)?...if so, that would be a quick way to tryout loading stuff (for whatever reason) instead of reburning a CD every time you wanna "try out" something...

someone should do a test just to see if it does infact assign a letter.....I might do it if no one else does hehe

Ok, so i had my ipod plugged into the top (or right if vertical) usb port and tried the drive letters E, F, and G, but to no avail...I'll prolly end up going throught the whole alphabet though

Please don't let this forum go to pot, after numerous people stating that they got a certain "release" of the full auto demo, to those stating "2 more hours" before they get their disk it is pretty obvious that you don't have the official disk, and that your dvd reader/burner takes 2 more hours to transfer the files to you computer's HDD or that you have the full auto demo and made a certain "release" for it, (that you aren't distibuting because that too would be illegal).  As well stop asking about whether or not another demo/ or a bootdisk work because once another disk is found to work as a "backup" it will certainly be all over every internet forum on the net, so stop asking "does dikhead_full_auto_demo_and_bootdisk_release work?"
Keep it legal, last thing you and I want is legal trouble coming to the scene

Yeah, last thing we want are more morons that don't know the difference between cheaters and modders. Give it up guy, modding is totally different than cheating.

and democracy leads to war, but it's the price you pay... (also, picking the right leader helps)
but before it flies OT, this disc is seeming pretty inconsequential, since I can't honestly believe they'd be idiotic enough (again) to sign things so willy nilly if they didn't think it was safe to do so

Yes, but modding leads to cheating unfortunately. It's just one of those negative side effects of homebrew.

This is the most back-asswards thing I have heard in a while on these boards.

WTF does modding/cheating have to do with each other? You don't even have to mod to cheat most of the time... And where does homebrew come into the equation.  jester.gif

umm back-asswards. You really can't figure that out? Yeah, modding has NOTHING to do with people's ability to cheat. Look at HALO2 with all the BS that was found. Yipee a sword and rocket launcher can get me across the map for instakill. How about flying through the sky. So, the fact that people cheat has absolutely nothing to do with modding. Those same people cheating WITHOUT mods, are the ones doing it WITH mods. Cheaters will always cheat, mods did NOT make them that way.
On a side not, modding can be really cool and add to gameplay. Ever hear of a little game called Team Fortress Classic? WTF you say, that WAS a mod. No one complaining about that one. Then again, I bet those people were just trying to cheat weren't they  laugh.gif

Was playing about stripping all the images from the skin files and I found that it has all the graphics for the different ratings from most countrys.

i.e. in gamedb.ini if you put  RatingIcon=app:\BBFC_15.png  instead of say RatingIcon=app:\ESRB_E.png you will get this icon up:-
IPB Image

In total there are 37 rating images.

Not a big deal, but hey it gave me somthing to do  dry.gif

Okay have mapped out the images stored in kioskmain.xzp & skin.xzp.

kioskmain has 85 images:
Screenshot 1
Screenshot 2

skin.xzp has 12 images:
Screenshot 3

Both files are unsigned and you can swapout images for your own. Below is a screenshot with the first image in the bridge replaced.
Screenshot 4

Been playing with the theme files and will post back on that later.

Cheers

how were you able to get to the images to view/change/extract?  i saw at one point you saw adobe imageready in it, but those files dont directly open with imageready...is there something else that has to be done?

They are in standard PNG format. Once extracted you can open them with photoshop or Imageready.

I used a hex editor to strip them out and replace. They have standard headers/footers so very easy to find.

LOL I wish it was like that  biggrin.gif

This is the PNG header if you did not know 89504E47 and the footer is 49454E44AE426082
So if you open skin.xzp up in a hex editor you will find 12 occurrences of each.

If you wanted to extract the first image on the bridge you would extract the 10th image in skin.xzp. This can be found at offset 0x0DB676h to 0x118655h.

To insert you own image you just paste you own PNG starting at the same start offset. Note it can't be bigger than the image you are replacing i.e the 10th image in skin.xzp is 249,823 bytes. So your image must be the same or smaller. If smaller just pad out the remaining space with 00.

BTW the bridge is the first screen you see when the kiosk disc boots with the 4 images.

I am sure there must be a parser out there that can scan a binary file and spit out any images it can find embedded. I did search for about 5 minutes but came up blank.

Anyway good luck.

The one I use is called, conveniently enough, Extractor, and can be found here:-

http://www.volny.cz/nova-software/

Its not free, however, the trial version does allow you to extract upto 30 files at a time. Unfortunately, it only appears to extract, i've never needed to use it for file replacement, but I just checked and couldn't see any way to do it...maybe you can?!?

Cheers,
